Worst trades in Supercoach history

hmm, that broughton link isn't how i remembered it, but clearly i was wrong there. though i still dont think that mitigates having him then trading him after two weeks, given his track record of scoring as a defender anyway, which he did until his role change.

As far as Martin goes it looked like through the pre-season he was going to break out into a premium - obviously this didn't happened.

I don't normally trade blokes early in the piece but it was very clear Martin and Broughton were not going to deliver and this turned out to be 100% correct. Get back in your box.

honestly, this exact statement goes to show how much you just dont understand a basic SC concept. you had no possible way of knowing after just two games what sort of year martin was going to have (which btw, were against a rampant carlton and then collingwood). it just was not possible for it to be "very clear" (see the swan/cox examples).  essentially you took a gamble, and it payed off, dont try to act like some kind of savant.

I'm with you fever, impossible to tell what someone's year will be like after two games. If that were the case Dempsey, Whitecross, Cornes, Stanton, Masten, S.Selwood etc. would all be premiums.

The Supercoach

i realised last round that i had traded every week from round 3 to round 16 so i have tried to stop. I have had some shockers like porps to cloke in round 11. I went heath shaw to carrots in round 4 and then carrots to fisher in round 5 and then decided to caryy fisher through his 6 week injury. I traded carrots back in 2 weeks ago.

Regarding the Broughton issue early in the season I traded him for Malceski and we all now what happened there!
My season got worse with the following trades:

Fyfe > Cloke - after Fyfe went down, had a choice of Pav/N Roo/Stevie J but chose this crab!
D Smith > Tippett - gave me a ton in his only high scoring game...and 3 KO's a week out and more to come!
Giles > Ryder - Played just ONE game then done his hammy which meant another trade to trade him out!

Been a shocking year all round!

I agree with Fever:

a) Broughton - Previous averages 98.7, 99.6, 92,6. Original cost $502,100.

Pros - Will play more in the midfield and score better.
Cons - History of injuries.

Reason Fever is correct - When we bought Broughton we knew at a minimum he would still score 90-100 which is keeper material for a defender.

There is no way after 2 rounds you can say he was not going give you a fair return on your 500k investment.

Up until the bye , and his subsequent role change, he was in that ballpark @ 91.55 ppg. Which was still in the top 10 defenders if you exclude Carrots and Grima who both missed 7 games up until that point.

So again, using hindsight to say selling Broughton in round 2 because he turned out to have a role change in the complete opposite direction from his original role i.e. going forward instead of to the midfield, all 11 rounds later is a joke.

Broughton could have very well moved into that midfield role in round 3 and currently be uninjured sitting at the top of the Defender pile.

You're just gloating on hindsight and nothing more.

b) Dustin Martin -

The choice we made to pick up Dusty at the start of the season was entirely based around the fact that Richmond had a very tough draw to begin with, and that he should come home in the later part of the season Adam Goodes style.

You either bought him thinking he would do 'ok' and not lose too much value, or you didn't pick him because you thought there was no way he would keep his value looking at their draw. Making him an upgrade target.

How can you possibly gloat about trading him after 2 rounds with the above conditions of entry?

Hindsight, that's how.

---------------------

In conclusion: You are a Muppet for trying to pass off hindsight as 'Supercoach Smarts'. Yes, it paid off, but not from any form of logical reasoning. You got lucky in the same way people who traded Mumford -> Sandi -> Ryder got unlucky.

I agree with Fever

hahahaha, awesome post.  i also agree with fever - you rolled the dice simma.  you got lucky with those two trades, but if you roll the dice with every trade, you will not come out at the end of the season smiling..

simma, you also might be well advised to hit the anchors re your personal attacks on various people, totally unnecessary

also, what might shape up to be one of my worse trades - other than cashing a few unripe cows - is waters to suckling two weeks ago.  thought he was out for 6 weeks, damn!

Dusty is a gun in the making, if he already isn't, the fact that he was a m/f meant you could have him forward and expect a reasonable return, the draw had nothing to do with my decision to pick him, and I still have him, chances are he'll be f/m again next year and I'll pick him again.

to say he is a bad pick is wrong! maybe not a top pick but not a bad one!

Not the worst pick, but was priced comparably with Beams, and higher than Dangerfield and Sidebottom, who are averaging 20ppg more than he is. He has also dropped 10 points from last year's output, which hurts.

All of that aside, he's still been solid, though for his initial price, his average and total points scored has been low. Will be one to look for next year, along with Fyfe and perhaps even Dahlhaus.

cortez

1) Heath shaw > carrazzo, when heater did hammy. carrazzo scores 1 the next week and goes down
2) Dylan Shiel > NDS instead of Kennedy when they were both around 590k
3) mummy > sandi and then sandi goes down.

Other than that year has been fine, bring on 2013!

HotTiges

Mumford > Sandi then sandi goes down after saints game
Sandi > HMac get 2 games out of hmac then gone

Zabs

I had Scotland from the start, decided to trade him to Dempsey coz of his avg start. Then Dempsey scored 6, waited a few weeks, then decided to trade Scotland back in. 1 week later Scotland was apparently injured, so I traded in Newman. To my disgust Scotland didn't miss and was back after the bye and Newman has scored 60's ever since. So I traded scitland out TWICE. Should have followed the golden rule, NEVER EVER TRADE a premium.
