Early trade ideas for this week

4 trades left, $241,400 in the bank - sitting comfortably at number 2 in my league and hopefully will stay in top 4.  That said my team needs a bit more work before/during finals and this week I play number 1 spot (who leads by 4 points and better percentage)  So my questions are, what should i do in regards to trades and should I hold off until finals, or go for glory this week.

My initial idea is 1 downgrade target to get more money and then the other 3 would be upgrade or sideways, hows does Dempsey/Ellis > Baguley and Adams > Pendlebury sound?

anyway, all ideas welcome

Spinking

I would suggest sitting on your trades til week 1 of the finals to avoid potentially trading someone in who may get injured.

Having said that.  If you feel you need to trade I'd be leaning towards Ellis - Baguley, then Hall (using the DPP trade function) to get to Pendles.

Bear in mind that if you are going to go to 2 trades with 6 weeks remaining there is an extremely good chance you will need to rely on your bench players at some stage, so I'd hold on to folks like Adams, Treloar, Gibson and Co. who will be quality replacement players.

Good luck!

i would trade dempsey before ellis at the moment.  dempsey has a be of 130+ so is on the way down while ellis be is 4 (i think).

this will give you a bit more cash to play with

Thanks Spinking, some good advice (altho as bensl says, leaning towards Dempsey just on current form) - I guess I want to go for the glory win against the top team but should play it sensible and wait.  Is Pendles the right choice, has to be right?

JamSainter

I am trading Dempsey to Johnson! Obviously for you, you still need a premium mid but hear me out.
It is a good value trade imo. Johnson has been mega consistent this year and is dirt cheap (for his 93 avg. at 414k).
I have noticed Dempsey struggles when the pressure is applied and with Essendon's extremely difficult draw coming up with almost all of their games high pressure I advise on trading Dempsey before Ellis. Ellis is actually starting to come good!
Also Dempsey has been tagging small fowards which I also don't like.

Yeh definitely need an upgrade in defense, but am thinking with the downgrade to Baguley I should be able to afford the likes of Johnson, or other consistent defenders.  It's frustrating as I'd like to get Murphy at his bargain price, but think i'd be stupid to miss Pendles when I can get him in.

Midfield prob a bit off the pace I'd look there mate

Well that's why i'm looking to get Pendles - apart from that, which I know - i wouldn't really call my midfield off the pace.  Admittedly NDS isn't performing right now but I was quite happy with my mids - is it really that bad?

JamSainter

Well I have Ablett, Boyd, Priddis, NDS, Watson and Pendlebury in my MIDS and I feel well served by them so your mids are fine.

Several issues raised here. My favorite kind of thread.

Mids - 5 premiums is why some are being a bit disrespectful. Most top teams have 6 already. Pendles is your man - playing GWS this week so what better time to jump on if you can afford him? You are losing 50 - 60 points a round in mids alone.

Def - with only a few trades left you may have to keep Dempsey. Hold Ellis for sure - low BE.

Bench cover - I agree that cover is vital. presuming Adams gets selected again I would hold. Crozier is gone so maybe he gets moved on.

You could wait a week for Pendles (predicted rise of $9K and Gibson rise $17K) and just get Baguley this week for Crozier or even shift Crozier forward and offload Hall for more money.

Then you'll have M/D DPP with Baguley and M/F DPP with Treloar.

Don't let your ego get in your way this week. Not an important match at all by the sounds of it.

dickitch

Thanks for the input tor, cheer for you.

I think you're right regarding not let my ego get in the way, but would love to have Pendles on board for the GWS clash - but then opponent has him anyway so I don't gain anything - i think I will wait as suggested in case there are any injury sucker punches.

Regarding my mids i'm aware there is a need for that final premo m6 but based on teams and injuries i've held off, plan was to get that backline looking good then upgrade final midfielder but had constant issues with covering outs.  Considering this is my first year of SC, i ignored the byes and I'm only going for league win I'm very happy with my overall of 4100.

I like your thinking, but i feel i need to offload a $300k+ player for Baguley to be in a comfortable position for my final 3 trades, unless of course i look at someone like Murphy instead of Pendles - but right now it's WANT!!  Let's see what GWS do with Treloar and Adams this week I guess.

Heh just noticed that all of my fwds on the field right now have DPP to mids - damn crozier, why can't you be worth more, Adams and Treloar are very valuable cover.

tor01doc

Yep. Maybe Baguley into mids to give option of Lids / Goddard (he'll get suspended soon because he's got to be so frustrated now he's ready to lash out) / Carrazzo / Scotland to mids in case of resting.

So Corzier out and Baguley in - cash stash up to $278K.

The next week Gibson has gone up by more than Pendles (I hope for your sake) and then get Pendles in for Gibson whilst offloading one of the Giants to supplement cashflow. Or even Hall?

Leaves you with 1 trade, a bit of money, 6 gun mids (Well 5 and NDS but you're not alone there), good rucks, fine forwards and a bit of a weakish but potentially high scoring defence.

Good luck.

I would downgrade adams to couch and then upgrade treloar to pendles leaving gibson as your bench cover in the mids. Then i would hold dempsey for the next few weeks and asses how he goes. You wil then have 2 trades left, so i would only then trade him out if you are lucky with injury.  I would rather downgrade adams than ellis, because i think ellis is the more reliable bench cover.

I know you have already got a few comments, but i just like to be helpful as well. good luck :)

Thanks for the input masedog - so below is my team based on if i were to do my two trades this week, although I guess i could wait until next week.

So i have somehow managed to trade out Hall for Baguley and Gibson for Pendlebury.  This gives me 2 players on the bench in mid, both with DPP, one in to defense and one in fwds.  It will give me $44k and 2 trades in the bank.  Ideally I would have liked more money from either Treloar or Adams to get one more better defender but I can't seem to work the DPP bench the way I want it.

Main question is, is this the best trading tactic for my team?  Also, should I hold til next week to do this, I do risk Pendles becoming too expensive due to the GWS game but it may be worth the risk.  It does scare me reversing this trade tho as I cant work out for the life of me how I managed to get it like that :P

This is assuming there are no late curve balls like GAJ being injured  :o
