Is Broughton someone to upgrade?

At the moment, Greg Broughton's 5 round average of 67 has started to drive myself and several other supercoaches to insanity. He is set to drop in price even more, and I don't see him scoring higher soon w/ Lyon not playing him in the midfield.

Is it time to get rid of this trainwreck?

I have 6 trades left and just 15k in the bank, but my ruck consists of Kreuzer as R1 and Redden or Campbell as R2, with Stephenson and the other of Redden/Campbell on the bench.

Also, my forward line atm has Dell Olio and Murdoch covering for Buddy, and if they don't play I will either have to cop a donut or use a trade to get some cover down there.

Basically, I'm asking what the best option will be for this week
1. Broughton > Baguely, Redden > Ben Hudson and then next week upgrade Smedts to any Def less than 475000
2. Stephenson > Derickx and then Broughton > Birchall/Carrots, etc.
3. Smedts > Baguely and Redden to any ruckmen below 450000 (very limited).

Plan 1 appeals to me right now, but I'm worried about what could happen in a week. Also, if Dell Olio or Murdoch aren't named then I will have no cover for Buddy, so unless I make a trade there I will cop a donut.

Thanks for any opinions guys.

Yep, defense is all prem with Broughton on field, smedts and boumann (don't ask) on the bench, mids are complete, forward will be full strength with buddy. The only issue is with my ruck, as said above.

cheers for the response.

ur rucks are def more a concern (do you have sam shaw or darley as def cover?).

broughton to baguley leaves you 290k, i would then look at redden to mcevoy or jacobs.

actually i think you should base ur decision on whether tom campbell gets back in the team or not. i think if carlton lose more games/slip out of finals contention that kreuzer will go get whatever injury he is obv carrying fixed up, so i think you need cover.

so if campbell comes back, jacobs or mcevoy as stated above, or if not then i would consider brougton to baguley and either redden or stephenson to hudson or minson.

then right on finals i would downgrade a cash cow to a rookie and upgrade smedts to the best you can afford.

My only def cover is smedts, so basically its 6 prems, Broughton, smedts and boumann.

If I get someone like Jacobs or McEvoy, then I will struggle to get a decent defender the following week and my team won't be complete.

Whats your opinion on option number one that I listed? Do you think its worth the risk having smedts or baguely as D7?

Thanks again.

oh yeah i overlooked the smedts/boumann part sorry.

i think option 1 is pretty good in that case.

havent done the maths, but could you potentially do broughton to baguley and smedts to yarran this week before his next price rise, then afford mcevoy or jacobs next week for redden?

That could be possible, but to get Mcevoy or jacobs wouldn't be a direct swap from Redden. I'd have to downgrade someone like stepheson to just get the money.

I could do what you said and get Hudson/Minson with a straight swap, with about 10k left and 3 trades. Sounds pretty reasonable, my only worry is Yarran's scoring.

One more consideration; is 2 or 3 trades enough if my intention is a league win where I am currently second on the ladder, have an easy draw ahead and a fully upgraded team. In other words, can I cover 22 players with just 2 trades over a 6 week period.

EDIT: It's essentially become a case of Hurn and 2 trades vs Yarran and 3 trades, to simplify things.

I have Duffield so I know how ya feel. Still, I would hang onto Broughts & just do the Smedts to Baguely downgrade if named. You know he will ton up if you trade him!

With the way this year has gone expect more injuries and dont forget teams that have no chance of making the finals blooding youngsters the last couple of rounds.

As much of a gun ablett is, i have concerns about getting him as i believe GWS may rest him last few rounds which would mean the GF and shatter lots of SC players

In your case i'd sit idle until finals time, dont forget top 4 get a double chance and youll save some valuable trades.

Just my opinion on this one, but outside of Lids, and maybe Carazzo, all defenders have been inconsistent, and I don't think you'll get much value out of a trade. If he gets dropped maybe move him on, otherwise hold and wait for Lyon to come to his senses...
