Magnussen became the first Australian man to win the 100-meter freestyle at a World Championships last year.

Maybe he didn't deserve 100% of the hype he was receiving but who else were the papers going to follow? He was practically the only single Australian who was a favorite for gold.

Problem is over the last few olympics the Australian swimming team has had a headline act (Ian Thorpe, Libby Trickett) someone who the team bases itself around, and now for these Olympics they put all the spotlight on Missile because they needed a poster boy, when really he is no better than the other swimmers and shouldn't be put under the amount of pressure he was.
