Mate I don't know how you are misunderstanding. Pick a player you think would play better in a game RIGHT NOW. If one of the players is injured, pretend they are injured no longer. I don't get what you are trying to say ?

I think what he is trying to say and we will use Lecras as the example.

Lecras is currently out for the year and you can't judge him on current form because his not player right now, You could judge him on last years form then you would have to judge everyone from last years form. Lecras could be leading for the coleman right now or he could be in terrible form struggling to get a game.

Its basically up to the judges discretion how they estimate LeCras would be playing right now. Honestly, I would pretty much judge him how he left off last year. That's because I would estimate his ability between this year and last year would be about the same (wouldn't improve, wouldn't decline). Put it this way, if I told you LeCras has now finished his recovery and is available to play for your team (I'm talking actual team now, like Port for you Noz) would he play and how would you expect him to play ?

Gilbee is a different case however, Gilbee has been fit this year (to my understanding anyway) and hasn't been able to crack the Dogs team much. Now that could be because the Dogs are trying to develop and want to play the younger guys instead or because he just simply isn't best 22 anymore.

If Gilbee was to play a game this weekend, how would you expect him to play ?

That is basically the question that you should ask yourself.
