Basically I am thinking we try and draft the best team we possibly can (taking into account actual AFL performance and structure, so not fantasy points which means we need FBs and CHBs and stuff) I guess for the team you would want if it were playing a grand final at the conclusion of the draft. Maybe we could actually have a voting system at the end where 1 by 1 we match up teams and have a knockout comp to decide the winner.

Things like injuries and suspensions would be ignored, it would be assumed that every player is fit and ready to play. If it was a knockout comp, we would need 8 or 16 teams, how many would people prefer ?

EDIT: Also just adding, I would definitely want to enforce a 24-hour time limit so only commit if you are active enough to do so. Obviously pms forward and stuff can help :)

Taking this bold rule into account, the judging cant be on current form like iv read a few ppl saying a few times  :)

Hoping one of the judging categories/criterion is the structure of the team? So like, speed out of the back half, height eg. You dont want six towering forwards or 6 tall key backs.

What are the judges criterion? (suggestions)

Defence:
Midfield:
Forwards:
Rucks:
Bench:
Sub:
Speed:
Tackling:
Rebounding 50?:
Structure?:
Parts of a team: EG, Tagger, extractor in the midfields, Key Forwards, crumbing forwards, rebounders etc :)

Just clarifying a few things for people.

In regards to the post above, one of the categories is 'Team Balance' which is basically like you said, not having 19 mids in your team, not have 5 KPP backs in the backline etc.

About the team:

The team you are picking will be (hypothetically) playing a Grand Final at the conclusion of this draft. That means expected retirements have no effect. Basically you are trying to pick the best players for the NOW, not 'well such and such is 22 years old so im going to pick him instead of such and such who is 29'. In regards to the injuries, basically its just so the good players who are injured can be picked. Like, Buddy for instance if he is still out when the judging occurs. This applys to players like LeCras etc too, its basically up to the judges to estimate how good those injured players would be if they were fit. That doesnt mean you say 'Well if Adam Cooney was fit he would be the Brownlow winner like in 2008', its if he was to be fit at the conclusion of this draft, you cant ignore the 4 years since then where he has been fit at times and (not a bad player) not a star.

A rule which I didnt state at the start (apologies) which I will enforce now is AFL listed players only, so no Fev.

My pick is Jason Porplyzia.

Cheers fro clearing that up Scrads :D

Damn, stole my next pick >:(

Defence: your defensive unit in general (out of 10)
Midfield: your midfield unit in general, includes ruck (out of 10)
Forwards: your forward unit in general (out of 10)
Team Balance: your teams general balance of tall players, small players, fast players, hard players, defensive players, attacking players etc (out of 10)
Team Flexibility:  your teams general ability to rotate players during a game for rests (e.g. Gibbs can play in the backline but go into the mid to let someone else rest. Eg. Ryder/Cox can rest forward when not rucking. If Goddard is struggling in the backline he can move into the midfield or go forward. (out of 10)

Total rating = out of 50.

The ratings will be in intervals of 0.5 (i.e. judges can give you 7, 7.5, 8, 8.5 etc, not 7.1 or 9.9).

The ratings are up to the judges own personal discretion. If one judge thinks that your defence is great and gives you 9 and another thinks its shower and gives you 4 there is no right or wrong answer and both marks stand.

Coaches will also be given a chance to 'make their case' to the judges by providing a paragraph write up about why your team is good, it will have a word limit but I haven't decided on that yet.

Is there any questions or complaints ?

Sounds pretty straightforward to me.

I pick the forgotten man: Dale Morris

Also just like to add I wasn't taking a stab at you by using Adam Cooney as an example before, I know you werent claiming that Cooney would be judged on 08 form, I think a couple of people took it that way. Obviously Cooney is still a decent player when fit and playing, but yeah, nowhere near Brownlow territory.

Also good pick :)

Nice pick!

Jeremy Laidler

edit: pick changed ;) Cmon Holz! :D

Holz

This guy averages 1.9 goals a game and mixes it up being a medium size forward. Also adds to the tackle pressure of the team.

Chris Mayne

Mr.Craig

Scrads, if you could give me an idea when Zombie's next selection is that'd be great. I'm submitting his picks this week while he's away. Cheers. :)
