What's the consensus on Jono Griffin?

There have been plenty of threads this week regarding who to trade Sandilands for and Jon Griffin was one guy who didn't get mentioned as much as I would have thought. What's the verdict on him as a replacement for Sandi? My team is struggling with both trades and cash, making him a great replacement that allows me to pocket a little bit of money. Here are some points I picked up:

  • Averaged 101 last year in his 7 games with no Sandilands. Including a massive 166 vs the Suns (with 26 touches) as well as an injury effected game of 49 (averaged almost 110 if you take that game out)
  • This year in his few games rucking alone he has scored 107 (against Kreuzer and Hampson), 93 and 117 (against arguably the best ruck in the comp this season)
  • His game against Maric was actually quite amazing. 43 hit outs, 8 touches, 6 tackles (gets a lot of tackles for a ruckman) and an awesome snap goal, all in the rain!
  • Sandilands will be out for 10 weeks which almost covers SC finals (if I even make it). Plus if the Dockers are out of the finals race by then he may not even return at all.
  • At around 450K he could be one of the bargains of the year. Maric is a good example of how being the lone ruckman almost instantly makes a player SC relevant. Goldy from last season is another example.

So is anyone else picking him up next week? I may be trying to justify my decision more than anything, but I think his price and potential make Griffin worth a punt.

I don't think Griffo has been suggested because his bye is this week. I  would go Goldstein or Jacobs instead if you can afford one as they have had there bye. If byes arent a problem get griffin and hope that sandi doesn't return. He will get you 100+ every week I reckon

I agree with u mate. Problem is we need a ruck NOW because Giles is out. See my post on Goldstein. Wat u think of Griffin vs Goldstein?

Yeah good point! The only other ruck I'm considering is Jacobs, due to price and the fact that he hasn't missed any games through injury (yet).

Tough decision whether Griffin is worth waiting a week on or not  :-\

Another problem with Griffen is that if Sandi does come back, prob around SC finals, you'll have to trade him out again. But yes he'll be great for the next 10 weeks

Yep and same problem for Goldy - Hmac coming back in the SC finals...I wouldn't consider either unless I had heaps of trades.

i dont like taking risks with premiums. but, thats just my personal view. i actually think if u want a cheap option, he is better than goldy cause mcintosh will be back before sandi.

That's the thing I guess, trade in Griffin and risk having to dump him during finals when/if Sandi returns. It's a tough one, but finals (and Sandi) are still 3 months away and at this stage I have to start winning to even worry about finals.

Jacobs is realistically the only other option for me and with a breakeven of 130 I may see how he goes tonight and trade him in next week if he tons up. Means copping a donut in the rucks, but getting the right player is worth it long term
