Dream Team and Multi Team Byes

I like most other people am not a big fan of the current set-up in Dream Team regarding the MRB’s. I would like to see a few changes made for next year which could potentially give the game a few more dimensions.

The solution can’t be too difficult as the game is designed to be played by all, not just the fantasy loving tragics like many of us on this site.

Season 2013 23 Rounds consisting of
20 “Full” rounds
3 “Bye” rounds.

League games
Rounds 1-10 (10 League Games)
Rounds 11-13 (no League Games)
Rounds 14-18 (5 League Games)
Round 19 (Double League Round)
Round 20-23 Finals

“Head to head” games start at Round  1(instead of round 3) I’m personally a big fan of this, with the current structure opposition coaches have time to adjust their team making teams simular come the first league matches. This would give coaches an advantage that have done their research and selected the correct players.

Round 11-13 non league games, the current Set-up just has too many disadvantages. Teams are heavily compromised with Premium missing / Doughnuts etc
I’m personally playing a very competitive mate during the MRB this year, which normally sees a box of Blondes exchange homes, it just takes a little away from the round as no doubt 1 team will be more disadvantaged.

Round 19 the “Double Round”
The best time to have the double round would be just prior to the finals, as any time prior would give an advantage to the aggressive trading overall coach.
This would also give an added dimension prior to the finals, teams just outside the 8 could sneak in with a double win, a coach could make a last minute grab at a top 4 spot with a few aggressive trades, and an overly aggressive coach could slip out having used too many trades.

Overall
Overall winner would work very similar, having all rounds totalled including Multi Team Byes, obviously round 19 still only counts once.

Multi Team Bye Rounds:
I really think that the current format takes away from the game. As many coaches would have liked a combination of Swan / Pendlebury / Selwood / Stanton in the Mids or a Scotland / Goddard / Deledio /Birchall in the backline. These option have been limited with the need for a dreaded “Bye Structure”

As stated the solution can’t be too difficult, I would like to see the squad re-arranged during the byes from

League Rounds
Back : 7playing and 2 emergencies
Mids: 6 Playing and 2 emergencies
Rucks: 2playing and 2 emergencies
Forwards: 7playing and 2emergancies

Multi Team Byes
Back : 6playing and 3 emergencies
Mids: 5 Playing and 3 emergencies
Rucks: 2playing and 2 emergencies
Forwards: 6playing and 2emergancies

This would give us 1 less player in the Backline/Midfield/Forward Line to field making a team of 19, a full playing squad could negotiate its way through the byes without any trades.

Alternatively the Mids could stay the same making teams to an even 20 during the bye rounds, but this restricts midfield selection.

TRADES
I think the trades could then be dropped back to the original 20 trades. I really think that trades are undervalued when you have 24, my team is all but complete (only fielding Giles / one mid Rook / with 2 mid pricers in the backline which I see as keepers)

Having the extra 4 trades, a lot more coaches are being overly aggressive which is leading to the big scores so early in the season, this would also add to the uniqueness of teams as coaches would have to let some rookies go and settle on premiums on the cheap.

Would like to hear everyone’s thought and other ideas

What's so hard about switching back to the split round we had 2 years ago??

Ziplock

I would have preferred the reversible trade system, where you can trade out a player in essence for free when they have a bye, and at the end of the week the trade just gets reversed :P

we really should have been left with the extended salary cap + 3 benches though tbh :P

Spite

Now take into consideration that next year will most likely go to a 2/2 sub/interchange and Dt will be ruined forever.

jaffa35

not gonna play next year if there are 2 sub crap and no compensation for the DTer

Justin Bieber

3 players in each position on the bench would of been fine.

whats wrong with not having byes?

They are looking at 2 next year with 6 mbr rounds def need a 3 bench if this happens don't know why they can't just give 2 teams a bye and spread them out start byes round 7 2 teams a week but ideally just have a week without games

KoopKicka

What was wrong with the split round anyway?  :o

Andrew

3 on the bench in DEF, MID, and FOR lines please. It's all I needed this season, let alone next!!

I reckon the challenge of 6 MBR's would be kinda fun to try and work around, would mean the real strategic coaches have a huge advantage in an overall perspective.

I would LOVE the inclusion of TPPs. (Triple Position Player)

That might be the only reason I would pick him.

Burgoyne, Bartel, Gibbs, Deledio, Petrenko... Would be some good ones for sure.

Yes, yes, yes! In this day and age to not be able to play your players the way they are played by their team seems silly. Make 1 ruck sub a utility to play anywhere like they actually do!
I moved up 8,000 places during the byes so I'm not too fussed about the format next year. I've accepted that as long as its Andrews Football League it will be based entirely on what he wants, what will make the most $$, and what will advantage the interstate clubs most.
