Despite resting Ryan Lester and Ben Hudson, and playing Jack Crisp for only a half, the Lions Reserves still fielded a strong line-up featuring plenty of senior experience.
here were still plenty of positives among the playing group, with Aaron Cornelius kicking four goals and rookie defender Stephen Wrigley adding some polish from across half-back.
“Wriggles (Stephen Wrigley) continues to impress. If it weren’t for him being on the rookie list, he would probably be right in line for senior selection,” Clarke said.

Brock Mclean led the way for the Blues, amassing over thirty disposals in what was arguably a best on ground performance.
The Northern Blues will be ruing their chances, as they kicked eight behinds in the second half. McLean was a standout, whilst Nick Meese worked hard in the ruck. Collins showed some spark around the ground and Brent Bransgrove always attacked the ball.

Jackson Paine (8 disposals, 1 goal):  Unfortunately he was injured in the second quarter but should be right in a week or so.
Kirk Ugle (17 disposals, 3 goals, 4 tackles):  Played him up the ground a bit more and was damaging.
Corey Gault (9 disposals, 3 marks, 1 goal):  Played as a key forward.  Led up at the ball well and his follow up work was strong.

Ross Tungatalum set tongues wagging with his eye-catching performance as he showcased his silky skills in a three-goal haul. Nathan Wilson continued his solid form, which should have him edging towards a return to senior action, and youngsters Matt Buntine and Jonathon Patton showed encouraging sides, whilst Stephen Clifton made his return from injury in the win.
“Patton is fine, he just suffered some cramp. He was up and about today, which was good, and it was pleasing to see him get through a game. He took some great contested marks, which will give him great confidence in his knee, and the more he does that the better he will be. So, another game under his belt and he will go again next week. There is no timeline there (for a Senior debut) we will just see how he pulls up after today and see how he goes into next week,” Hand said.
Stephen Clifton made his return in the game and Hand said his inclusion was great for the side. “He has had an interrupted pre-season and missed a few games with injury so he has been itching to get back and he has been doing a ton of work on the sidelines, so to have him back was great.”
Other standouts were Sam Reid, who Hand praised for his shutting down of Suns’ young gun, Jaeger O’Meara as well as Will Hoskin-Elliot and Nathan Wilson.

Tom Murphy: Solid performance under tough circumstances. The experienced defender was charged with kick out duties for much of the day and finished the game with 21 disposals.
Bradley Hill: His speed is always dangerous as his ability to pressure the opposition. Finished the game with 15 possessions and three tackles.
Broc McCauley: Again one of Box Hill’s best, McCauley’s run and spread around the ground was again a feature of his game. Was the Hawks’ dominant ruckman with 18 hit outs and finished with one goal.
Cameron Bruce: Box Hill’s best in the middle, as always Bruce looked assured in possession. His six clearances in midfield was Box Hill’s best as was his 12 tackles.

Casey had first use of the tricky breeze and dominated from the outset with former Demon skipper Brad Green providing great drive. Liam Jurrah also proved elusive and a difficult customer to handle.
But both teams were off target and the game was sinking into a lacklustre contest of defences, until the experience of Lynden Dunn and the class of Jurrah and Jack Watts pressed home the advantage in favour of the Scorpions.
The Demons also look to have uncovered some talent for the future in Rory Taggert (26 disposals) and defenders Troy Davis and Jai Sheahan who were solid all day.

NORTH MELBOURNE

Aaron Black's four goal effort propelled North Ballarat to a much needed win over Coburg in the VFL on Saturday. The talented young forward has been threatening to kick a bag since the start of the season and made the most of his opportunities at Eureka Stadium. The 21-year old collected 15 possessions and six marks in the victory and with more consistent efforts, will be pushing hard to play his second AFL match.
Live-wire Matt Campbell was also brilliant and kicked two goals to go along with 21 disposals and five tackles, while Cruize Garlett had 16 touches and five tackles.
Aaron Mullett's attitude after being dropped from the North Melbourne side can't be questioned with a close to best-on-ground performance. His 28 possessions and seven inside 50's was critical in the 27-point win and will have him straight back into contention for an AFL recall for the Kangaroos' match against Port Adelaide.
Meanwhile Cam Richardson had 18 disposals and Gavin Urquhart had 15, as well as three tackles and five spoils.

Jeromey Webberley
Picked up plenty of the ball, as per usual, but wasn’t as effective as he has been previously this season. He continues to work hard and is waiting for a position to open up for him in the Richmond line-up.
Addam Maric
Was a solid contributor, collecting 18 possessions playing through the midfield. When he had the ball, he used it well and was an effective player.  The team probably needed him to get a bit more of the ball and work harder defensively.
Angus Graham
Was dominant in the ruck during the first half, before receiving a red card and being sent off the ground.  His ruckwork continues to be very strong, but it was also pleasing to see him take seven marks during the time he was out there.
Tom Derickx
Had his turn spending time in the development team, to focus on developing his ruck skills.  Improved as the game wore on and finished with 47 hit-outs, which was a very pleasing result from our perspective.

SAINTS
http://www.saints.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/5315/newsid/135721/default.aspx
19 year old Saints midfielder Tom Ledger impressed again with 24 disposals, along with defender James Gwilt in what was his fourth game for Sandringham since returning from a season ending knee injury sustained in Round 17 last year.
A highlight of the match was the return of Saints defender Raphael Clarke, in what was his first match for the 2012 season.
He gathered 20 disposals and contributed to the Zerba’s dominance in the third term.

With Trent Dennis-Lane called up to senior duty, and Nathan Gordon travelling to Melbourne as the non-playing emergency, much of the Swans scoring relied on Mitch Morton, and he didn't disappoint as the crafty forward added to his goal tally with eight majors, moving into second place in the Eastern Conference goalkicking chart in the process.
Tommy Walsh was the Swans other multiple goalkicker with two as he was named amongst the best players for the visitors. Both he and Morton benefitted from the midfield work of Jarred Moore, who was again outstanding, and Harry Cunningham who also continued the good form he showed against Sydney University the week before.

WEST COAST

In recent weeks, Lewis Stevenson has been a stand-out performer for Claremont, largely off half-back, but also deeper in defence where his coolness under pressure has been a feature. Exquisitely skilled, Stevenson was again among the Tigers’ best when they comfortably accounted for Peel. He had 19 possessions, which were generally used to maximum effect, but also had three marks and five tackles.
Koby Stevens has arguably been the most consistent of the players who have taken the field regularly in the second tier, where his work rate and energy consistently carry him to contests. When East Fremantle dispensed with West Perth, he was at the forefront with 26 disposals, eight tackles and eight inside 50 entries. He appeals as the player at the front of the queue should a midfield vacancy occur.
Small forward Murray Newman was again lively for Swan Districts with 17 possessions, six marks and four tackles and could have impacted the scoreboard a little harder, returning just 1.3 from his opportunities.
Newman is, however, continuing to grow in confidence and stature and it would not surprise if he was to earn an opportunity to debut at AFL level in coming weeks - following on from Jacob Brennan and Ryan Neates, who have played their first games in the last fortnight.

Hahaha i didn't see that. Another writeup had Zorko kicking a goal against them even tho he played AFL. I thought it was maybe last weeks writeup but it was this weeks... idiots haha

Worrying that some guys i was hoping to downgrade to didnt get a mention this week. Couch, Mitchell, Docherty, Gibson, Harvey, etc

ShaynoB

Mitch Morton must b thinking what more does he need to do. Kicks 8 goals and doesn't get named in best players. Didn't he kick 10 last week to?

Yeh was hoping to see Docherty and Couch in there.

Nice work though again Ric

The problem is no information. He could have just sat in the goal square and had 8 kicks? I would have like to see him against the Tigers... but hopefully he gets a run in the seniors soon.

Yeh was hoping to see Docherty and Couch in there.

I was trying to find some info on them yesterday but came up empty. I can't remember the teams last week but maybe they were emergencies for the Lions/Demons and didn't play in the 2's? Seems if that was the case then this week they'd either get a gig with the big boys or drop down again. Who knows.
