I'm honestly wondering how GC would've gone without GAJ today.
But I'm still happy - won $24 after putting $10 on GWS at $3.40 :)

"This is the worst draft pool we've had in a while" ::)

Anyone else remember that being said alot before the last draft??

Gold Coast have a better talent pool. I was at the GWS v Gold Coast match, and although the the Giants were the better team on the day, I think if it was played at the Gold Coast it would have been completely different.

The game was VERY close by the way. It was only the last 4 minutes when the flood-gates broken. There were a couple of moments in the last quarter where if the Gold Coast had converted, I think they would have won by 4-5 goals.

Agree with Oss here.  If it was at Metricon would have been different (Not looking forward to our clash there in July) and if Gold Coast had taken opportunities in 3rd and 4th quarter momentum would have been with them not GWS. Remember the Coast are without a number of their experienced players as well Bock out, Swallow was obviously not 100% and Ablett short of a gallop as he tired in the forth quarter, (One of the opportunities missed normally he would have ran on after a hand pass and goaled but stood virtually still). The effort of Cornes in organising defence can not be underestimated in that game.

If anything I think GWS get more out of their experienced players than GCS.

But to be fair both sides have a considerable talent pool and will be forces in years to come. A GC V GWS GF in 2015 would not be beyond both teams.

you've got to remember that the GC players are a year older, with more AFL level experience, and have Ablett.

also, a home ground advantage at manuka isn't really a massive advantage...

well, we're missing brogan, along with most our big forwards with setana and patton out. I think the loss of those pretty much weighs out no bock...

Zip was just trying to make the point that I believe GWS did better in the recruiting of expereinced players than GCS. Take Ablett out who is capabaly matched by Ward your experienced players Scully, O'Halpin, Brogan, Power, Cornes and MacDonald I would prefer to Bock, Brown, Riska, Brennan, Fraser and Warnock.

Youngster wise I believe both are relatively even.

Colliwobblers

GWS are going to improve faster Sheedy is the coach. Not a knock on Mckenna but Sheedy is Sheedy. This said Ablett  should significantly help GCS midfielders improve just by being there setting an example and imparting knowlege.

Easy to forget the gun recruits GCS have given it's thier second year.

I reckon they are very evenly matched after all they both took the cream of thier debut years draftees, and zone selections.

Still I reckon the GWS got a slightly better crop of rookies.... Still yet to see Buntine and Patton and a couple of others.

I don't remember GCS having as many stand out gun rookies, Swallow and Prestia and Matera and a few others showed they could develop into Guns but GWS have how many we have already been impressed by.....

bennells been solid as well for GC :P

don't forget we also have palmer and davis :P

Doyle

I think that Swallow is better player than Coniglio and Bennell is looking the goods to be the most improved player of the year. The GWS have recruited the lower drafts picks well, and under one of the greatest coaches in Sheedy, they are bound to succeed.

coniglios been pretty impressive- he's also copped niggles every game and still performed well. Which one turns out better, I dunno :P

He has been, but Swallow as been a better midfielder and in-and-under play + he has a stronger body than Coniglio (just by looking at them both)

Smart recruiting Ward, Scully, Palmer and Davis are all in the early to mid 20's and as such will be at their peak with the stars coming through.  With this experience and youth can see GWS making a great impact in 2014.

well he's a year older with more than a season of afl under his belt. From memory swallow wasn't crash hot early last year either :P
