It seems to me that coaches are unaware of the serious issue of the bye rounds that are creeping up on them. Looking at my team I am planning ahead to strategies, but I believe coaches will be copping donuts left right and centre or wasting trades which will hurt them in the run home, I would like to know peoples strategies, to trade in bye rounds and have only a handful remaining afterwards, or cop the donuts and use trades in the run home?

BGK

My strategy is like having no strategy. I won't be sideways trading and I will cop the donuts that come my way. I highly doubt anyone can sideways trade their way out of donuts and still have enough trades for finals.

I'm aware. Every trade I have to do prior to the byes will not be in vein as they will all be made with bye structure in mind.
You can't cop the donuts, you'll have too many. IMO, if you are trying to get a decent overall ranking, you will need to use the 6 trades over the bye period and hope for luck in the run home.
If you are going for league only, and you are high enough in the ladder, maybe you could try your luck with no trades.

there are 9 trades available during bye period, 3 each week

My strategy is to have enough wins that losing a bye round or 2 wont be the end of the world. Will likely still use a few trades during the bye rounds to minimise the damage whilst also upgrading.

i was just being lazy didn't want to explain the though process again :)

i think most FF members have and had the best laid bye plans and awareness...

i fear most will go out the window between now and then and during but all you can do is have a "loose" plan and see how it looks when they arrive.

From the start this is my strategy to cope with the byes....have on the bench rookies that have a bye in round 13 for example morris and ellis in the backs and redden in the ruck and pfeiffer in the mpp mid/fwd. The idea here is to use them on field during rounds 11 and 12 and in round 13 trade up to premiums not sideways.

My GWS rookies will be culled from now until round 10 with the exception of giles whom looks like will be a 'keeper' ruckman. I will be trading in players without the round 11 bye. At the start giles was going to be traded out for Sandi whom has his bye in round 12 and play redden in his spot.

I also have a few mid pricers I will trade to premiums when they have bottomed out for example trade in fyfe for whitecross in round 12. I plan on using 6-9 trades between rounds 11-13. I don't intentionally want to eat any donuts although some of these late withdrawals killed me.

Feel free to tear this apart as i'm sure its not without its flaws.

Cheers players

Everyone is saying 6 to 9 trades across 3 rounds. I can't bring myself to do it. Yes you will make some upgrades but largely they will be sideways. You can't tell me you had enough extra trades last year to sideways trade that much. I guarantee if you use that many trades in those rounds you wil be complaining late in the year that you haven't got enough trades.

TheMailman

You won't even be trading to the best possible players anyway. You might skip an extra 200 points ahead from the byes but people will simply reel you in with smarter trading.

Yea, I'm not counting lead up trades only the 3 required between round 11 & 12 and the 3 required between 12 & 13 = 6 trades. Thats what I mean by over the bye period.

Just wondering, has anyone worked out in a 'best case scenario' the minumum total number of donuts that would be eaten over rounds 11, 12 & 13 if 'NO' trades were made?

From a quick rough guess I'd say something like;
11 - none :)
12 - 3 :(
13 (this is where it gets nasty) - 5 :'(

8 donuts = 800 points = 600 points lost to the field provided they follow a bye trade process and only cop 2 donuts.

Am I on the ball? Or have I got it wrong?

Ringo

Look at your team structure you have going into byes as all will be differ.
Eg if I did not trade between now and round 14 and pending all current players playing

Round 11 - 4 donus
Round 12 - 0 donut
Round 13 - 4 donuts

So you can see the importance of sorting out a strategy to minimise.  I will be trading firstly to set up my desired team with some bye considerations.

That is my plan. I won't be trading much at all during the bye periods as I am going for league result so I'll bank those trades for later as I feel as though I have an easy fixture during the bye rounds.
