im the same as you ubeaut, ive only got pendles and boyd yet n im still holding him....hes way to valueble and way to hard to try and trade back in later

lowry

I reckon you should trade him out for pendles if u dont already have him like me. Firstly Pendlebury will become valuable after a slow start and he is similar to Ablett. Also by trading for pendles, you get 98k in the bank!
Also I only have selwood, swallow and masten

Its a bit less than 98k (88.7k to be exact), but the problem is bringing him back in. Even with the 349K i have in the bank ATM + 88.7k extra by going ablett to pendlebury + the estimated price rise of Magner i doubt i will have enough for a straight swap back in. If you can manage it then you could get a jump on the rest of us who hold him, but it will cost you trades which may come back to haunt you.

Spot on Vicious Sandwich. This thread has a lot of ingenius plans for trading out GAJ and getting him 'straight back in' in three of four weeks time using several cunning trades and residual cash hocked away here and there.

In theory could work if planets align, everything goes perfectly and there are no injuries / suspensions requiring rescue trades in that time (ie chewing up said residual $$). Risky strategy looking at the first 4 rounds of carnage I would have thought. ANYTHING goes wrong after trading out GAJ, could be several trades for the return trip or a season without GAJ.

roo boys!

Certainly keep Ablett. I have 23 trades left (went Smedts -> Treloar this afternoon) and I am not wasting two of those on the one player! You need Ablett in your team, that's a must IMO so may as well sit him on the pine and hope he's back to play against GWS.

In terms of overall you can look at it two ways:

1)  Trade him to someone like J.Selwood and catch the leaders by a few 100 points assuming he misses 2 or 3 wks
................. if this turns into 5 weeks your gain will also increase ... bone bruising takes time to heal and he won't be risked
2)  Keep him and again jump rankings when Ablett returns on those who no longer have him or couldn't afford to get him back

The problem with option 2 is that most top teams won't trade ... hence you may not make much ground here at all.

An example however of how having a premium playing over a rookie makes a big difference ... this week I avoided most of the carnage (had Goodes and Dempsey on bench with ok cover) and jumped just under 32,000 places up to about 20k overall.  If i trade Ablett that could jump me near the top 1000 in a few weeks ...

My issue is I have used 6 trades already and need to save them up for the bye ... for those who have only used 1 or 2 trades this may be worth while for overall however.

+1 i think your spot on! I think ablett will eventualy slow down sometime after having to carry gold coast for so long, he'll need to be rested; he's too precious to be overworked

-1 You haven't been doing this for very long have you. Sorry to be blunt

ZEDDOG

"slowdown" used to describe ablett.
Hmmm , good luck with that..

4INAROW

yeah "slowdown" probably isn't a word i'd associate with one of the fittest blokes in the game and by far the best

@lowry - my point was that if you had lots of trades left and wanted to catch up overall you may consider trading Ablett out ... not for me as i have used 6 and my only trades between now and round 11 are for getting ready for the bye.

I think most will agree the odds are that Ablett will never slow down or really drop in price.  :)

The other point to consider that nobody has mentioned is that if Ablett in fact has bone bruising then that could be more like 4-5 weeks ... there is no quick fix for that ...

Waiting til tomorrow to see if birchall is named as he is out with a similar issue my team just isn't good enough to run with a 2 prem midfield while I wait on gaj to return

matto76

no ones taken into account that he actually wants to play this week. It was twittered today. Put back onto match committee to make a decision to rest him or not. If he does play that could kill alot of teams as they traded before the collingwood match
