But with a 4 day break between games resting has to be considered, regardless of our start to the season.

Why are they out for 2 weeks?? Surely its 1 week and they will see how they are. This to me stinks of they have done something wrong and have to miss 2 games due to protocol. ie late to training, drinking bans

It wouldn't surprise me if they are just being rested because of the short break especially seeing as you have Port (they are better this year but still).
I'm sure if we were versing an easier opponent this week we would do the same... We have already held back nearly all our fit players not playing against the Blues from playing VFL this week so surely the Pies are thinking about having fresh players for Anzac day too  :-\
