Team strategy: redundancy to avoid mass donut weeks, mid priced players that will hopefully hold or appreciate their value, trade to fallen premiums (got massacred last year with nearly all my premiums hitting low 300's).

petterd, urqhart, scott d thompson, scott stevens (not entirely happy with this one), nick suban, tadhg kennelly, josh hunt (risk) -- brad shepard, christian howard

marc murphy, rich, brad ebert, callan ward, hamish hartlett (training the house down apparently), rhys palmer -- scully, tapscott

kreuzer, tippet -- lobbe, warnock

brennan, franklin, rioli, lecras, bradshaw, ziebell, dangerfield -- jack trengove, ben cunnilingus

I think you've taken your team strategy too far.

Who are your captain options each week? I see one in Murphy.

I count 2 geniune premiums in your team, I'm sure a few of your mid-price players will step up, but for me there's just too much risk. Try starting more rookies and using the cash to get a few more 'keepers'.

But hey, if you're confident in the plan then go for it, if you think you've chosen the right players then your team value will sky-rocket.

Murphy and Brennan are the captain options for the first few weeks until I can trade up for a premium like bartel who gets 100k knocked off because he 'only' scored 100 last week :D. Murphy for consistency (did he score below 100 last year?) and Brennan because apparently he's up for more midfield work this season.

I changed from gun/rookie strategy last year because basically I had a global financial crisis in all my 400k premiums and had to keep absolute plonkers like petrenko because I was busy trading to cover 5 donuts each week, in all the areas I thought I never would - Cox for example.

Well if you're sure on the idea then go for it. I do however like the mid-price selections you've made. The only two I question are Thompson and Urqhart...maybe Stevens as well. The rest should all improve on their average.

I'm hearing you on the lack of premiums first up. I'd like to knock a mid pricer down to a lower priced improver to upgrade to another premium somewhere. I just can't find any like last year's screaming buys - higgins for example.

I'm also looking for other mid pricers around 300 that i've missed.

THE WARDEN

i did your stategy last year and picking mostly mid range players and a few guns and was 1 and 4 after 5 rounds.
ebert was putrid all year, dont go near him next season

some other mid pricers I've considered -

grima - like him but don't want too many players from one team in the same position. may swap out thompson?

s hill - how much up side?

de boer - how much upside?

cotchin - want to see his pre season

swift - can produce a big score but probably not step up material this year

rance - very cheap, can produce good scores but may not be consistent enough in 2nd year, and uses his head a lot, such as on other player's heads...

hill + angus graham/naitanui instead of tippet/warnock combo. i'm just not confident about a big bloke standing on a dodgy knee.

Your missing underpriced premiums. Luke Hodge for example should be in your back line.

Daniel Rich is also a wasted pick. Not an accumulator.

zenmaster

although i am tempted to move away from a guns and rookie strategy it feels high risk because you have to be very sure of the upside with your midrange playyers.Scott D thompson for instance ... Petterd (how often will he get a game?) Rich - steady consistent but how much upside in year 2?

To put it simply.........this team will really struggle!

valkorum

DeBoer is still on the Freo Rookie list but may be brought to the senior list for the LTI of Dodd.  I believe he will be fighting for that spot with Clancee Pearce, Van Berlo and possibly COSOS Alex Silvagni (only because we are short KPP's)

scottydude182

I like the strategy, looks a bit like my side, alot of people are saying it will struggle but thats because they dont understand the strategy, it is proven if you pick the right players. it is pretty risky though...injuries really hurt!

Clint-84

This strategy won't work because this team only has a couple of premiums and there aren't enough trades to do all the upgrading necessary  to compete with the top teams.
With a lack of big scorers this team will start off too slow and won't be able to catch up.

worked last year mid priced strategy sure you start slower but you come home much much harder.
