I've had a burning question in me ever since last year and even more so after these past 2 weeks which have highlighted it to me once again. The question?

Why didn't our beloved Eagles pick up Brandon Matera(Son of Wally Matera) and Alex Rance(Son of Murry Rance) under the F/S rule? I have not seen anything else posted about this(so apologies in advance, yes I searched) and have asked questions to numerous Eagle related avenues with no answers... until a random google search this morning found a great couple of stories.

The First one the answer I was looking for,
http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/sport/a/-/eagles/9528180/father-son-rule-frustrates-west-coast/

The Second article that interested me is here,
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/afl/localfooty/picks-of-the-litter/story-fn53khop-1226046424487

Yeah I know it's a doggie article, the thing that interested me was the "What a future Western Bulldogs father-son team may look like" Now that got me thinking what would our F/S team of past champions look like? I have no knowledge of the sons of past former champions other than the famous Bobby Cousins(Of course from Ben), Oscar Judd(Sadly maybe to the Blue boys) and our first Jared Brennan

Anyone out there care to help contribute to what our exciting future F/S team may look like?

FB: Jared Brennan (Michael), Jesse McKenna (Guy), Alex Waterman (Chris)
HB: Marley Wirrapunda (David), Charlie Worsfold (John), Bailey Banfield (Drew)
C: Zac Mainwaring (Chris), Jordan Matera (Peter), Kyle Hart (David)
HF: Lux Embley (Andrew), Unknown (?), Noah Braun (Michael)
FF: Unknown (?), Zane Sumich (Peter), Cooper Matera (Phil)
R: Unknown (?), Bobby Cousins (Ben), Oscar Judd (Chris)
I/C: Sunni Kemp (Dean), Robbi Kemp (Dean), Unknown (?), Unknown (?)
EMG: Unknown (?), Unknown (?), Unknown (?)

Kids in the System but haven't been picked up by the Eagles... yet...
Tyson Keene(Laurie), 22 Years old, Plays for Subiaco in the WAFL(not eligible, the Eagles came too late for Laurie..)

I'll try to keep updating every now and again I feel like procrastinating at work :D

Any help adding to our future team would be great!

Got all tingly trying to picture Gaff giving up his number in light of Zac being drafted and handed his old man's number :D

Found a "pool" of potential f/s selections in the coming years, again updating as I go along..

Was going to tell you that players needed to have played 100 games for the club for their sons to qualify under that rule, but that first article explained that for you, which is why you missed out on Matera and Rance ;)

Interesting to see that they are able to get players who played 150 games in the WAFL before the club entered the AFL though considering to qualify for the F/S rule for the Crows they had to have played 200 games in the SANFL for South Adelaide, Norwood, Glenelg or Sturt before Adelaide entered in 1991. This meant that we missed out on Bryce Gibbs because he dad, who played 253 games for Glenelg, had only played 190 odd games before Adelaide entered so we missed out.

It's the same rule with Port, to qualify they had to have played 200 SANFL games for either Port Adelaide Magpies, North Adelaide, West Adelaide, Central District, Woodville or West Torrens.

Why is it the WA clubs only have to had 150 game players, but the SA clubs have to have 200? That doesn't seem fair!

Ziplock

I only thought it was 50 games lol...

CrowsFan

Haha no sorry Zip.
I wonder if they will make any special considerations for GC and GWS? Maybe have to have played so many games in NEAFL or something...

Absolutely right does seem unfair, no idea why...

Yeh its very average. I was pretty bemused by the whole Bryce Gibbs debarcle with Adelaide. I think their would of been considerations if he wasnt going in the top 5 picks. It was as if the AFL wouldnt let a number 1 draft pick go under the father-son rule.
