Convince me I'm an idiot - dumping Shaw

Shaw --> Hargrave and Pfeiffer --> Greene means I'm:

A complete muppet - you should never downgrade a premium or sideways trade a rookie.

Showing remarkable insight - given it will net me some $140k allowing me to go rookie to Swan next week

I'm after your assistance please FF community.

I've had enough of Heath Shaw.

I know he's a premium. I know that his scores have been impacted by injuries to other Pies players.  I know that he'll come good...eventually.

However:

After two weeks of scores in the high 2000s I know the ugly jeep will never be mine.

In week 4 I'm playing some tough competition - and I'm keen to win.

I've gone a risky setup of 6 back premiums, 3 midfield premiums, 6 forward premiums, 1 ruck premium and a lot of rookies.

I've got ~$150k in the bank currently - and if I do this trade I can turn my poorest performing midfield rookie into Swan or Pendlebury next week.

Is this a stroke of genius or complete idiocy?

I can't decide.

Colliwobblers

shaw will be freed up with the skipper back this week, and shaw always scores badly against poor opposition, he only had 6 games under 85pts last season all bottom 6 sides.

given the pies have a tough draw and given he has had defensive accountable duties with taz and maxy out he will improve.

If you are going to do this, you may aswell do it this week.

ive traded out shaw (reversible trades innit) for waters and i wouldnt reccomend it but im getting worried with tarrant out and marty clarke looking like shaw maybe confusing the pies who thought they had kicked it to shaw  :P

+1, well said mate

BarnDogg

So last year Shaw started with a 75 and 65 and everyone traded him out, THEN he went 105, 85, 110, 117, 124

This year he started with a 56 and 66 and I bet everyone will trade him out, but what will he then go onto score......

Think about it!

LEV

trades are gold, you brought him in as a premium, so keep him. we all know he can score well, albeit inconsistent for the most part.  I have him, and im keeping him (and broughton). I know my trades are better used elsewhere.

I still think he'll be in top 6 defenders at seasons end (im an optimist!)

Flame

Anytime you get in swanny is a good trade though! I am holding onto shaw eventhough he is flowering my team up! But getting in Swan is worth a look? ???

Chopps

if this is your most pressing concern then you have an alright side.

i would keep him i know i am.

Brucey2

Thanks all.

You've all provided pretty sound advice.

The lure of an early upgrade to a Swanny is appealing - but Colliwobblers and Lev you're right.

Shaw will probably end up being in top 6 - as I think will Broughton.

There's no point trading Shaw out now if ultimately I'd need to bring him back in to have one of the top 6 defenders.

Alternatvely, maybe the captaincy has weighed too heavily on him and he'll lurch to an average in the 70s - but I guess that's the ugly jeep question.

Thanks all,

I would keep Shaw personally ...

But if you feel the need to trade I would go Shaw to a rookie (like Bugg/Mohr/M.Clarke/P.Bower etc) and then get Pendles/Swan in with the second trade ... not knowing your full team I am not sure if this if possible but Hargrave could cause you more headaches (plus slight injury cloud) and although Greene is very solid he is not quite a Magnet Magner must have rookie.

mpollock

Additional ... 2 trades instead of 3 is the theory ... also you get a premium in with these two trades and not another rookie and a mid pricer ...  :)

Brucey2

Thanks mpollock - just when I'd thought that I'd made up my mind...

You're right, I could go Shaw --> Mohr and Pfeiffer --> Pendles/Swan/Stanton.

Hmmm.

I guess I just have to make the call on Shaw.

Fun fact, it's not a jeep anymore lol. FJ cruiser now lol.

Or Shaw > Clarke then pocket 300k and #winning.
