AFL Fantasy Tactics: Fantasy Players To Pick From The 2009 AFL Draft
Ben Cunnington could be the best fantasy player among the young draftees. Plenty of spots available in the midfield for the Kangaroos.

Anthony Morabito joins a Fremantle club that needs everything, and he can do a lot of everything so he should have a lot of stats.

Tom Scully, Jack Trengove, Jordan Gysberts and Luke Tapscott all have the potential to play a lot in 2010, but when Moloney, Jones, McDonald, Grimes and picks from last year Blease and Strauss are added there isn't a spot for everyone. Tom Scully and Jack Trengove should be safe picks to play every game, Tapscott is more than ready to play but they may have to find a position in the back line for him to start with.

Luke Ball is easy to figure out, Collingwood aren't paying him all that money not to use him all the time in the middle.

John Butcher joins the Power who need a marking player at half forward, and also a backup ruckman, so Butcher may be able to help fantasy teams next year.

Jesse W Smith, Rhan Hooper and Simon Buckley have shown in the past that they have fantasy AFL skills, if J W Smith is healthy he will be a great fantasy signing.

Lewis Jetta and Trent Dennis-Lane were brought in by the Swans to kick goals, right away.

Jake Melksham, Ryan Bastinac, Dustin Martin and Gary Rohan will be expected to do a lot in their first seasons.

Bradley Sheppard and Jasper McMillan-Pittard could be given important roles in the back line where they use the ball a lot.

Lukas Markovic and Adam Pattison are older players brought in for insurance against injuries, and if a player or two in their position go down then they may have to play a lot.

Callum Bartlett, Kane Lucas, Nat Fyfe, Jamie MacMillan, Andrew Moore and Koby Stevens could produce stats if they become regular players for their clubs in 2010.

Nice write up, Fat.

Some points of note, you probably forgot the most important up and coming Melbourne midfielder in Cale Morton. He is definetely on my radar, especially in DT and with McLean gone. If Blease has a good preseason he will play R1, is a ready made type.

I believe Ball is overpriced, or more so, there is better value at his price.

KPPs take time so don't expect too much out of Butcher. Good point you make about the Swans but Lewis Jetta was not a noted goal kicker in the WAFL.

I think Dustin Martin and Anthony Morabito could play close to 22 games next year.

Koby Stevens is apparently a fantastic in and under player but is competing for a spot against a midfield that contains Masten, Ebert, Priddis, Dalziell, Kerr, Swift and Luke Shuey waiting in the wings. I think he could struggle to get a game at the moment. Kane Lucas is in a similar position at Carlton.

Some other names to keep an eye on during presason with respect to players from past drafts that haven't debuted include Robbie Tarrant, Matthew Lobbe, Phil Davis and Lewis Johnston.
