Gday, i gotta say i miss the hell out of footy! but i just started preseason so im feelin the vibe again!!!

bring on SC 2010!!  here's my draft - when it comes to rookies/cheap options its too early to tell obviously, but thought i'd try and name the full 30

*this team leaves me with $147300 based on Monty's fanplanner - btw great work and thankyou monty!!

BACKS - Bock, Newman, Enright, Hodge, Pratt, Kennelly, Hunt
reserves - maguire, croad

MIDS - GAJ, Cooney, Dalziel, Spike McVeigh, Ladson, Morabito
reserves - cunnington, blease

RUCKS - Tippet, Hille

reserves - laycock, currie

FORWARDS - Deledio, Jono Brown, Buddy, Harvey, Rob Murphy, M. Williams, Watts
reserves - trengrove, gumbleton

Prospector_1

Trengove and Gumby are good enough to start on the field - so do that, and use a cheaper bench and more expensive premiums, whether in the forwards or elsewhere.

Ditto for Cunnington. Laycock is a bit expensive for a reserve too, I'd have thought.

WildRover

not enough rookies and some ordinary players in there....Ladson? M Williams? Watts? Laycock?

First rule of SC, never ever EVER get Laycock!  Same goes for Kepler Bradley!

back to the drawing board, at least it's only early!

Heater

Yep, agree with Wildrover; Laycock is useless.

I'm looking at mature age blokes taken late in the draft.  Markovic, Thorne are 2 which look pretty good.  By all accounts Shepard will play early for WCE.

Can't wait to start playing around with my team....!!! ;D

ronl

Poor Jason, he has the ability...he just gets...confused.

ronl you said it all for laycock. Might be the next kepler bradley and move to freo in a couple of years.

I learnt from this year to try not to pick key forwards. Buddy and williams will have high scores one week but low scores the next. I haven't chosen buddy this year because of what he did to me last year :( .

Trengrove pricey to put on the bench. You could sub him in for murphy or williams and replace them with a rookie. that could give you an extra 200k or so to spend elsewhere (like getting another premium or 400k mid)

Speculator

If you want to go insane, pick Laycock in your team and then watch him play football. You'll be in an asylum within 2 weeks. The man is a joke. I am staggered that he remains on an AFL list, surely there is some contractual problem there. Please don't pick Laycock, at least give Warnock a go. If its not better for your team, it will be for your mental health.

The main problem I have with your team is the lack of star power in the mid-field. I think you need at least one more premium in there. You've spent way more on your defenders (it's a turbo charged backline). Also I presume you will be fixing your backline reserves. You will go nowhere with Maguire and Croad.

I think you should move Cunnington to the forward line and get rid of Watts. As a rookie tall forward, he is unlikely to outscore a gun young mid-fielder like Cunnington. Rookie tall forwards can have absolute shockers.  Alternatively, move Trengove onto the ground and replace Watts with a cheaper midfield type rookie.

Torress

well apparently no good then!! lol

i think u blokes are a bit harsh on laycock, you don't need to get personal - the bloke is playing AFL football!!

agree with all comments but im not bulking up my midfield at the start, this will be my 3rd SC season, i fin within top 2000 last year and my main prob towards the end was i needed to trade too much as i went for prems and rookies, copped a few injuries and was stuffed => and bundeled out of finals.

I'm trying to pick midpriced players that are below their value, i think with no buddy and roughie/cyril, and the fact the dons play quick footy, williams will get on the lead(as he like to do most) often. at 300k i think he is a good buy
ladson will increase in value as well if plays enough games, he is cheap as.

blokes im thinking season length more so this year so i want depth and cover, i trust myself to pick up good mids when the price is right, its an expensive lot of prems this time round!!

fair call bout having too many prem defenders but the tactic was talked about last season and from what i observed ppl who premium'd their backline did quite well. bit of a punt with cheap defenders , its much easier to upgrade within the midfield.
;) yea rookies/cheap options are bound to be moved around and replaced, we don't know who will get a chance or anything yet so i'll stuff around with that l8er or closer to the season beginning

thankyou for comments much appreciated!!

I would at least get one premium ruck. Tippet certainly isn't premium at the moment, so I wouldn't have him as your best ruck.

I wouldn't bother with Watts, KPP's usually take time and he's unlikely to score well anyway + probably going to cop a good defender as well.

Don't like Maguire and Croad on your bench, even if they play they aint' goning to score well. Better off going with a rookie who can rise better in value.

For your second ruck option in 2010, I would at least go for Sydney's Mark Seaby or David Hille who could make a big impact in fantasy land as he missed most of 2009.

Torress i've gone with a similar plan with the defenders. i just got drummond in instead of newman. then i surrounded them with cheap guys (ladson, hill and sheppard). I think this is the way to go for the defence and forwards this year.
I will just say that tippett will score big or score low. He is usually up forward for the crows. Kreuzer is an option that might be more consistent but won't pull out 100+ scores often. Don't listen to me for the rucks though as i have brogan as my premium  ;D .
Seaby is no proven scorer BigV. He may be good this year as he is partnering with mumford but even in west coast's premiership year (surrounded by guns), he didn't score much better.
Williams is cheap and surrounded by young forwards but remember, he will get the toughest defender each week.

Torress

indeed tippet is no prem yet i def agree with that- tinkered around a bit so now i got big cox - i doubt i'd be able to start the season without him really!!
hellopplz glad to hear im not only one!! yea i swapped in drummond 4 pratt, then downgraded spike mcveigh to add pav in frd line for watts.

Pavlich - there is a small army of freo mids back this season which means pav won't have to work as hard, he is no captain for SC anymore but i got no doubt he will improve on 09 season, and is cheap as to boot!

i think the thinking with seaby is that due to the amount of stoppages they have a ruck is around the pill more - but na i wouldn't worry with seaby.
yea i just picked croad and maguire cos i knew who they were and they were cheap as - i highly doubt i'd start with either.
ladson averaged 90 odd in the hawks premiership season - that year they did share the ball around the backline and transferred quickly to the big guys up forward - teams seem to be able to break a zone more than in 08 - therefore i guess that might mean ladson scores crap i don't know - but if the hawks start the season on fire (which i think they will) he could be a straight swap middway thru season in the mid??

Hawks_1976

I like this team a lot, here are my recommendations for improvement.

Out: Bock, Dalziell, Burton, A.Walker

In: Pratt, Vince, Mayne, Veszpremi.

Torress

thanks for reply m8

yea def been looking over pratt mayne and vespremi but not really vince
def would sub walker out especially if vespresmi comes good, yea dalziel hasn't had a full season and with a new team?? so vince - is the consensus in that team he'll become prem mid next year??

don't like bock hawks1976? or u think he is best def to flick as pratt is a good buy from all other prems defenders i have?
