Once Brown comes back into the side next week, Merrett will go back downfield which will free up Golby.
That's why he's been having to play the lockdown role.

Just keep your fingers crossed that Brownie can go the rest of the season without breaking his face. Again.

And Rocky won't have to go forward so much

I think Mabo's wise words are the best I've read in a while.  :)

I dont have Golby but i thought he showed signs of being a good pick early on .. Nab cup scores were very nice .. i think its a bit harsh of people to call him a dud pick and should never have been considered .. Hindsight is a wonderfull thing ay

Yes, that is correct. But, surely Voss would see that during the NAB games he was playing much better in that role to what he currently doing it. Who knows what his thinking, but I'm keeping him.

Also, point to note, a logical note.

You had to pick let's say out of two players. One is Mitch Golby & the other "John Doe". Both are the same price in DT.

You look at my stats on Mitch Golby....Then you look at John Doe's......TAC Cup stats: 8 disposals, one mark & 2 tackles. Absolutely no hype on him and shower NAB scores. Who are you gunna pick?

obviously Golby, but you shouldn't put yourself in a position like that.

I was tepmpted by Golby but thought that he was unproven so I wouldn't risk it.  Don't have any midpricers in my back line.

or for an extra $200,000+ you could have had the amazing Adcock who scored 7 more SC points then him. Good value there too!

antonc

He'll be fine.
And as Mabo said when JB is back his role will change.
I could see him av  70-80

And as windy said we all do the research on our players and pick players accordingly. Most people can pick the prems and the good rookies, but the difference between a good and a great team is identifying the other rookies and the midpricers. If you can pick those say at an 70-80% success rate you will do great. For the other 20-30% you will have to bite the bullet and trade them out.
All part of this great fantasy game.

Again as for golby he has only 1 bad score and last week he scored more then some of the prems (broughton, shaw to name a couple)
No need for panic buttons!
Could be a different case though for broughton!??!

At his price another 50-60 won't really lower his price much if any...

The worst that can happen is you give him another week, it doesn't work and then it's another week closer to Docherty's debut where you can use him as your downgrade.

Plastic Boy

You've bought a purely speculative mid pricer based on nab cup scores, what are u expecting? 90

Drummond is back next week so Golby could be on the out

I fully expected a bad score from Golby this week, you always get that with small-medium defenders against Carlton. Brisbane's next two games are against a Ballantyne-less Fremantle and Gold Coast. I think I'll be keeping him at least until Round 4, unless one of the better rookie backmen has an excellent game this week in which case I'll downgrade Golby. Also, with Drummond in, Black and possibly Redden out, could Golby be moved to the midfield? Unlikely I guess, but we can dream.  :)

I don't get all these idiots who say he showed nothing in the pre-season.

Obviously you didn't research and you're an idiot.

100, 73 and 94 - for a guy who's $265K - that's awesome.

He scored 88 points per 100 minutes in the NAB. That's keeper quality and for 265K that's awesome. There's a valid reason he was selected, so before you try and make us out as stupid for selecting him as if he didn't show anything.

shuddup u dum dum.
That 100 he scored was in a game in which adcock and hanley were both missing so one can only assume he played the half back role due to their absence. Also shining in the nab cup alone isn't enough to warrant a selection in your team, the only thing the nab cup is good for is choosing rookies, not premos or mid rangers.

Well, I think after reading all this (and after having a day to cool off) I might consider hanging onto Golby. Too easy to trade Golby for Clarke though...

care to look at last years pre-season stats where Suckling, Shiels, Fyfe and I'm sure some others that I can't think of off the top of my head all owned NAB last year?

Windigo

The bottom line is this:

It's been two weeks into the season. He scored a solid 77 from 3 QTR's. And got 42 in a game where the Lions got smashed and DT slut Rocky had his lowest score in 2 years.

redden and rockliff owned last NAB as well.

Windigo

Exactly, we missed the boat with those players last year. So I decided to try and get a Suckling cheapie for this year.

I did my research, and I think it was/is a justifiable choice.

me

think i saw this mentioned earlier in this thread and i agree - he was playing on betts, and not many defenders score well playing on betts or garlett - did a decent job of it as well and unlike other players seemed to hit a brisbane player when he had it (not much)
