Wasn't planning on making a team for a while, but since everyone else is keen I thought I'd better give it a go.

S Hurn
C Enright
L Hodge
R Petterd
R Ladson
J Hunt
T Kennelly
(Rookie, Rookie)

G Ablett Jnr.
M Murphy
A Cooney
S Bourgoyne
R Palmer
D Martin
(L Jetta, L Tapscott)

A Sandilands
K Tippet
(Rookie, Rookie)

N Riewoldt
B Deledio
L Franklin
M LeCras
C Rioli
B Cunnington
J Trengove
(K Lucas, Rookie)

42K left

Obvious thought is to downgrade Kennelly to rookie and upgrade Petterd to premium. But I've just got a feeling that Petterd can improve his avg to 80+, so we'll keep him for now.

Thoughts/Advice?

hibbo, I bet you were itching to put something up here!

A few others are on Cooney and Palmer - are they FILTH? ("Failed in London, Try Honkers"). I mean, they shoulda been better last year, but now they screwed it, do you really think they can pick up where they left off the year before?

Martin hasn't been on my radar - I better check him out. Wouldn't be surprised if your gut feeling on Petterd is right - but Melbourne, ugghh.

Keep up your great posts, people will take notice, and find the value there!

It's weird, I kinda' feel like a veteran of this forum along with you (and others) and therefore prefer to give advice rather then recieve it, but I just can't seem to control myself  ;)

Anyways, back to SC.
Cooney suffered from a bad knee injury this season, once he got healthy again his scores started to increase. IMO 2008 wasn't a once off and he can repeat it.
Palmer's price is too good to refuse IMO. He is better at DT, but that's not to say he's a dud at SC. In his first season he averaged 87 and this season before injury we was looking pretty good again. I reckon he can become a keeper or at least a very handy cash-cow.

I havent done too much research on the draft, but I've heard Martin's name mentioned in possible top 5 pick and from what I hear he aint' too bad with the ball. He could be swapped for Scully later on depending on other factors.

Other option is to swap Tippet for Hille, but at the moment I'm not so sure if Hille can be a keeper. I like the idea of a 'lock and load' ruck combo.

Im going to lay it down now and say Dustin Martin will be the best first year player to come out of the 2009 draft next year. Big call. He has a massive ego and attitude about himself, quoted as saying "i was born to play AFL". Some will say this is being cocky, but in football you need a personality like this, Buckley was the same, and he will mellow out as time goes by. So mentally hes got what it takes, and looking at his video and numbers hes also got what it takes physically, hes solidly built for his age. He will definately feature in my squad if picked up by Richmond.

hibbo

From what I hear, he has excellent skills. Always helps in SC.

Hawks_1976

shower, I thought I would be able to keep Dusty a secret!
I heard that he quit school a couple of years ago just to focus on footy. Could be wrong though.
I decided on Martin instead of Scully because I'm keen on having Blease or Strauss as a bench option and didn't want too many Melbourne players in my mix. I still believe that Champion Data loads points towards higher placed teams.

As for your team Hibbo, its a solid start.

I am a big fan of Shannon Hurn, booming kick and therefore they love getting the pill into his hands across half back. But I don't see him improving beyond 90 av. Am happy to be wrong though. I'd be inclined to drop Hurn and Petterd and shop for 2 defenders around the 420k mark. I think there are some players in this bracket that are set to have 90+ averages in 2010.

I also think that Gibbs is a much cleaner user of the footy than Murphy and that he will average beyond 110 next season.

hibbo

Yeah, backline for me just doesn't feel right at the moment. Correct about Hurn Hawks_1976 - I'm unsure if he has any more upside & he might start copping a defensive forward tag now. I like the structure of the midfielders, rucks and forwards. But something needs to be done about the backline.

Speculator

Hibbo,

Great team I reckon. I actually like your backline except for Petterd. I had him last year and couldn't wait to see the back of him. I just don't think he has what it takes to average above 80. Hurn had a good first year, but you are paying the same for him as a proven performer like a Sam Fisher.

I think your midfield is close to perfect. Cashing in on underpriced Cooney, Burgoyne and Palmer could be golden move.

I'm not sure about Tippett in the ruck for his price. One lesson I learned last year was to select rucks who actually play full time in the ruck where the big points are, rather than forward.

I don't like Le Cras, but I just looked at his last 5 weeks and they were almost elite, so you never know I guess. I just think you might get some inconsistency there.

All the best for 2010

hibbo

Would never even look at LeCras if it wasn't to how he finished the year. He started spending more time in midfield which meant he scored more, hopefully he continues to stay there. I expect him to be a popular choice if the right signs are there during pre-season.

ronl

For mine, Le Cras was nearly a one-man offence for WC last year, did a lot of running around on his own, using blocks  to get open in the forward line.  Don't think astute coaches will allow that to keep on happening.  He'll probably attract a lot more attention now that he's into the semi-elite zone.

I've got my eye on Bradshaw, beautiful leader to the ball, strong, straight kick, perfect for SCG and at an attractive price.

hibbo

But wouldn't Sydney's style of play limit Bradshaws opportunities? At the SCG with less space to move as well - although he has always been a good one-on-one mark.

ronl

I know what you're saying Hibbo, but Micky O never had trouble finding space to lead into and I think Bradshaw is much the same type player.  I guess it all depends on how Roos structures things, but I get the impression he's pretty keen on Bradshaw.

Kangamagic

Hibbo,

Thats a good team though I wouldn't have Petterd either he had alot of low scores this season but he did come good at the end of this season with a few high 100's he scored a 103,121 and 128 and i think it will be his 3rd year yes?or 4th? - BUT he could have a great season next year! I guess thats the beauty of SC isnt it, and you can put your faith into a player and he proves everyone wrong and your laughing if you have him in your team and no one else has him - you could be onto a winner there!
I guess just back your gut feeling thats important cause I was going to have LeCras this season and I didnt end up getting him and he was on fire all season with West Coast , I was kicking myself in the end.
