Forget the rookies they will all change (except Warnock).
Also what do yu guys think about saving some cash in the bank before the season starts , so you can make some real good trades before round 4? With this team I'll have about $400,00 left

Cheers

OK dude,

I'm wary of Hodge, Adcock and Gilbee this early.

Not convinced that those last two have enough upside, and wait on NAB to see where Hodge plays.

Not convinced that Wonna will get back to last year's form - again, wait on how Melbourne looks at NAB cup, I guess.

How much is $400,00? If it's nearly half-a-mill, I think that's another elite player you could have had on the field. I know some like the money to be able to make nifty trades early on, but I'm from the school that says money in the bank is like money on the bench - it's lazy money doing you no good.

If injuries do what they usually do, you're likely to be able to manage your recruitment by trading out LTIs, and it'll save you some trades for later in the finals, when you are sure to want more than you will have left.

Thanks Prospector, I know what you mean about Gilbee he drove me nuts this year, however apart from '09 his record is outstanding. I'm hoping he can get back there in 2010.
I've got $400,000 in the bank. My reasoning is that you always make trades before round 4 anyway so why not have the cash to upgrade to the blokes who are in form for the first 3 weeks. I know I will suffer in the first 3 weeks but I'm not going for the $50,000 prize. At least I will be able to get anyone I want instead of trading someone down to then trade someone else up. Appreciate the advice, thanks.

Hey Ted

I think this is a solid team.  I agree with Prospector on Adcock - I'm not a fan.  Also, look at Gilbee closely in the NAB Cup to understand what sort of a role he'll play.  I'll be doing the same for Sam Fisher.

Forward line looks fragile - Harvey, Murph and Wonna all had long term injuries last year - plus your forward bench carries two of the most injury prone players in the league.  I think Gumby is worth a punt - ditch Rusling , put your rookie on the bench and keep an eye out for next year's Shaun Higgins (Yarran??).

Hard to imagine a SC team without the mighty Cox, but I think Sandilands is better value next year.

As for money in the bank - I think Prospector is right.......once the season is in full swing.  The first couple of rounds is a good chance to pick up quality players that are obviously undervalued (Hunt, Ladson, Kennelly, Hille, etc).  Some of these players might be keepers (like Bradshaw & Stevens in 2008), most will provide excellent upgrade opportunities.  If picking these players at the start of the season means leaving a couple of hundred in the bank then so be it - but money in the bank at the start of the season is not a hard rule I follow.

Once the season is in full swing then the more money that is in the bank, the less money you are using to score decent and create additional value in your team.
