As one of the 21,000 there today, I hope the boys showed enough to attract the bandwagon supports back.

Great effort at the ball, contested possessions were up, clearances were up, tackling was exceptional. Not bad against a team that prided themselves on all those things. Just seemed to fall down a bit at CHF/making St Kilda pay.

Brad Ebert, Matt Thomas, Wingard led the team in their intensity. Paul Stewart and Surjan were exceptional in defence and Chappy and Bobby are looking more and more solid in defence. Daniel Stewart has made big strides since last year, Schulz, Cornes, Cassisi were solid once again and Redden was quite good against McEvoy. I felt we good a few good calls from the umps but thinking about it, we were first at the ball and were being rewarded for it as has been the case for a while but only now, Port weren't trailing opposition, they were leading them to the ball.

Haven't heard AAMI that loud for a while. Well done boys, build that confidence and here's to proving a lot of people wrong.

WE WON!!!

I unfortunately had Cricket presentations today, and being captain of my side, sort of had to be there. :( Now for the Bombers then the Swannies back home. :)

klankers

Unfortunately as i live in Melbourne i was unable to see our first game of the season. I am definately going to Etihad to watch the mighty power get up over the bombers

Try a Crows game Wes, we don't have those silly banners covering the seats muffling the crowd and make plenty of noise chinking our Chardonnay glasses  ;)

Admirable win by Port, loved Wingard's courage  8)
Alarming statistic was that of St Kilda's 13 goals, 9 were from turnovers. Port's biggest problem last year was turnovers and that lack of second effort to get back and cover, often allowing opposition teams to 'go over' their defensive line and create the cheap opportunity at goal.
Good point though was that means Port controlled the stoppage, allowing only 4 goals from the controlled position.
Get the balance right and the ledger may see them win more than they lose.

Seems iPrimus's operation in the off season (known as a Laidleyectomy) has lifted a great weight from his shoulders, great celebrations boundary side, but ease up, it's only round 1.

In a way it shows how far down St. Kilda are headed. But it also shows that Port are improving.

Obviously you'll still cop it this year and probably the year after, but you're heading up.

Sydney should still win though  ;)

It is, but as shown by the players, it meant alot to them getting that win. As it did to us supporters.

Colliwobblers

Well done boys - I'm a big fan of your coach - lovely guy i reckon (from a distace as in i don't know a lot about him)

And good to see that style of footy from ANY team, McCarthy a handy pick up, Ebert a great pick up.

It's the old boys that also stepped up too which was good too see.

On a side note I love anybody who beats the saints  ;D

Kane stepping out of his brothers shadow brought light upon his performance  8)

*Rest on your laurels now Port, you have now achieved. Begin 2013 now  :D

Yes the turnovers were tough to swallow Roost but the modern day game is a high risk reward game in its style and the Port took that risk to pay up at all costs and apply the pressure and risk losing a goal a man down as it turned back over their heads. Yes you can't do that every game but I have every confidence such a statistic won't be over looked as a better team like Hawthorn or Geelong will make you pay more than what the saints were able to do.
Port should have won by more.

+1
The turnovers, particularly in the back half were the only reason the Saints got so close. Port were much harder at the contest than the Saints and makes for a positive start to their season.

Unlike most, I actually thought they would be much better this year and predicted they would finish about 13-14th. I also tipped them against the Saints  ;)

I tipped them to beat the saints and also to finish 12-13th despite their ridiculously hard draw.

I'm another that tipped them, but had us finishing last before pre-season haha. Win-win situation there.
