Brisbane - 17.17.119

Melbourne - 11.12.78

What can i say? Im speechless.

Melbourne, who have talked themselves up as the big improvers this year, had a very winnable game against a very winnable team at the only venue they seem to win at, AND with Jim Stynes death inspiring them.

And they got humiliated, disgraced, put to shame, and flogged by a team away from home who finished 15th last year.

I am devasted, shattered.......... and am just so sick of this.

What is it, the 6th year straight of poor football? How long must we wait melbourne fans? I mean, I'm an enthusiastic, optimistic melbourne supporter, ask ossie85, and I regularly stand up for my demons who when about 5 years old and searching for a team to support under the guidance of ossie85 who was letting me choose any team i liked and not his beloved magpies, ironically, i chose melbourne because i felt sorry for them for losing the grand final against essendon.

I chose melbourne after a loss, and their still losing. Enough is enough.

Unfortunately melbourne's season is pretty much over. I usually would be the last person to say something this irrational. But new coach and professional culture brought to this club, and the reasons i've already said, couldn't get melbourne over the line against a very winnable opponent (apologies to lions fans).

I know there is 21 games to go, and the season is far from over. But from this match you can get a fair indicator of what melbourne is gonna be this year.

My top 8 prediction has gone to bottom 6. Melbourne will win against the suns and giants, but im not confident with anyone else.

So I close this rant with what i've been saying for the past 5 years.........

there's always next year.......

Kellogscrunchynut

As a Tigers fan I can sympathize.

Noz

Chucking some money on them to win the spoon this year reckon Suns can beat them. This was the 1 game to set them up for the year, sure it takes a while to adapt to a new coach and his gameplay but the way they played was shocking.
Disposals were below par as was their forward and defensive pressure. If Magner and Clarke weren't there they would of lost by a lot more. Jones, Moloney and Davey need to lift being the senior players in the midfield.

Purple you learn to take the good with the bad.  I have supported Brisbane since 1988 yes in the Bears days so I know what you go through.   I think you Senior Players Green, Maloney and Davey all let you down today.  There were very good signs from Trengove, Watts and Magner and Grimes made a reasonable return from injury although no pre season games showed.  May take a couple of games to get used to new coaches style if he is changing it.  Must ask the question though why does Bate seem to get the vest a fair few times?

Would not be surprised though if you ended up finishing above us as we were very ordinary at times as well. Carlton will test us next Thursday night.

True ringo, but you can only take the positives for so long before you expect to win games. 5 years is long enough for me

TBH i thought the dees would struggle, new coach, game plan etc., its tough. But that performance is too woeful for that to be an excuse.

Poor Bate, always getting the short end of the stick.....

Neeld press conference was funny, you could tell he was P***** off

There are a couple of teams which have stalled in improving in the last 20 odd years.

Hell, it took Carlton like 11-12 years to become a competitive

ossie85

My concern for Melbourne is I think football is becoming less cyclical. Seems more and more likely that the rich teams stay on top for longer.

Collingwood, Geelong, Hawthorn, West Coast, Carlton, Essendon... Adelaide improving. Coincidence that those teams are the wealthiest?

MTTY

I'm not that worried with Melbourne this season. I mean while i hate seeing them lose, if they were going to finish say 16th, thisis the year to do so.

With a super draft looming say we get pick 3 at the national draft.

Pick 3 - Jack Viney

We then use the compo from Tom Scully to get pick 4 and use it on someone like Lachie Whitfield (if he hasn't already gone in the top 2)

Pick 4 - Lachie Whitfield

If we then use our other compo then we will recieve pick 10, which i am quite confident we can get Sam Mayes with

Pick 10 - Sam Mayes

If we could do this, then we have recieved two gun midfielders oin Viney and Whitfield, while also getting what looks like a future mid/tall forward in Mayes (who showed a lot as a underage player in the U18 champs last year)

I just hope those picks do well for you guys. Cos your last 2 #1 picks have been disasters, with one not at the club, the other not in the best 22 in one of the worse 22's going around :(

I agree Ossie.

Have seen a few replays of both Whitfield and Viney.

Viney is a very hard at it contested player, with great burst from packs.

While Whitfield can also play as a half back, mainly is a outside and inside midfielder with great disposal, mainly kicking skills.

MTTY, Whitfield Is Guaranteed to go No.1 or No.2 atm unless Injuries strike. Viney Is a Superstar Tho, Would love him at the Bombers, Then again Heppell Getting to Essendon at pick 8 is .....AWESOME!  :P

I'd have to agree i too think he will go at 1 however there has been a lot of talk recently about other potential top to players, from a Demons supporter lets hope he slips.

Good Luck, I think 1 player can make a pretty big difference in a team. Essendon were very close to grabbing Gibbs in the 2006 Draft, Pity he fell to Carlton.  >:(

I feel the same, as its something the Demons lack.

Melbourne IMO have the weakest, hence the "sub-standard" performances, midfield in the competition. I really think we need three gun midfileders with these picks.

The midfield i believe defines a team, is the most important part and the key to success.

Just think, if melb convinces GWS and GC to let viney slide, we can get him at 20-odd and get 4 gun midfielders  ;)
