I still have no idea how it works :( can someone please enlighten me and perhaps use examples to show me? thanks :)

felsty

I think it works like this...
If you have hale in your forward line and you want to put him in the ruck but you have no dpp in there, instead you could trade a ruckmen, say Stephenson gets injured, you can trade him for a forward like zorko who is in the bubble and move Hale to the rucks instead of the forwards

TMurphBROWNLOW

hmmm so during the season you can simply trade stepension for Zorko? when you click the T for trade, will Zorko be in the ruck category? how does dreamteam know that you will do this?

nostradamus

not quite......

you trade out the ruck who has fattened nicely for you, then you move Hale from the fwd line into the rucks

then you trade in the fwd you want

.....thats my understanding of the rule anyway

ZEDDOG

No
Zorko will not be in rucks
1 trade out Stephenson
2 move hale from fwd to vacant ruck spot
3 trade zorko into new vacant fwd spot

Scenario - trade Goddard out for Swan...

Starting team:
DEF: Goddard, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah.
MIDS: Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, JMac.            <---    No DPPs here

Trade scenario:
Step 1 - trade out JMac:
DEF: Goddard, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah.
MIDS: Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, empty.            <--- No trade used used here (JMac out)

Step 2 - activate Goddard's DPP:
DEF: Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, empty.
MIDS: Goddard, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah.     <---   Goddard moved into empty mid position

Step 3 - trade in Swan for Goddard:
DEF: Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, empty.
MIDS: Swan, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah.          <---  First trade used here (Goddard - Swan)

Step 4 - trade in defender to fill gap:
DEF: Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah.           <---  Second trade used here (JMac replaced with defender)
MIDS: Swan, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah.

Hopefully that helps.

mezz, that can't be right, because that isn't a new rule. You could do the same thing last year by trading Goddard for a defender, and then upgrading JMac to Swan. I think ZEDDOG's got the right of it.

TMurphBROWNLOW

mez your one was super helpful! :D I hope that actually works!

but what praetorian says is also true, could just go Goddard -> rook, JMac -> Swan  ???

ZED &/or nostra can you elaborate!?

TMurphBROWNLOW

nvm I think I'll get it! I'll just experiment after round 1! after all, you can undo trades anyway :)

I am right.
The first RED TEXT (no DPP in the mids) is the main difference between this year and last.

Praetorian

But you don't need a DPP player in the middle.

Let's roll with your example:

Defenders: Goddard...
Midfielders: McDonald...

Trade out: McDonald

Defenders: Goddard...
Midfielders: ...

Move Goddard to Midfield

Defenders: ...
Midfielders: Goddard

Trade JMac for a rookie

Defenders: Spurr
Midfielders: Goddard

Trade Goddard for Swan

Defenders: Spurr
Midfielders: Swan

Here's what you would have done last year:

Defenders: Goddard...
Midfielders: McDonald...

Trade: Goddard for Spurr

Defenders: Spurr...
Midfielders: McDonald...

Trade: McDonald for Swan

Defenders: Spurr...
Midfielders: Swan

...It's the exact same thing. My understanding is that the rule this year doesn't require you to trade Goddard at all.

I.e.

Defenders: Goddard...
Midfielders: McDonald...

Trade: McDonald for Spurr

Defenders: Spurr...
Midfielders: Goddard...

You can then trade Goddard if you want, but you don't have to. It just lets you swap DPP players as you see fit, so long as you have someone to cover the gap left behind (in this case, Spurr).

...Which is a very long and needlessly complicated way of saying exactly what ZEDDOG already said.  :-[

TMurphBROWNLOW

needless to say, that did clear things up fully so it was helpful ! thanks :)

mezzoculo

The difference is now that you can trade between lines without having an active DPP link.

Both examples show that - mine just has an extra (and seemingly confusing) step (the Goddard - Swan trade)!

upthemaidens

trading is now a 2-step process this year, not just a direct trade like last year

TMurphBROWNLOW

hahaha dw mez yours helped too :D
