Good news with the report of Jarrad Waite being thrown out

jezzablue

thank god waite got off!!!

perfect scenario is duigan sliding back in at the cost of russell...jamison resting another week...reasoning on the type of injuries theyve had.
i dont think northern blues are playing this week so the boys wont be getting a run otherwise..

Mat0369

I just had a look online at the VFL fixture. You are correct. Northern Blues don't play this week. If Duigan and Jamison both come in who goes out? Russell being subbed off is the obvious choice. Bower for Jamison?? I think Duigan will start as the sub if he is named.

Mat0369

Ratten ruled Andrew Walker (quad) out of the Lions game, but said the forward might be fit to face Collingwood next week. Ruckman Robbie Warnock will play in the VFL on the weekend as his return from a shoulder injury continues.

I also read this. I am guessing that Warnock will play in the VFL reserves. So if Duigan and Jamison are to play 'VFL' this weekend, it would have to be VFL reserves.

yeah im not sure they'll drop bower...theyve (the club) been talking him up and appears to be 'in form'...
im just going on gut feeling regarding duigan playing and jamison not...at least theyve got an outlet (vfl reserves) to give them a run...and to get their confidence up before playing collingwood.

I think Bower had a good game on Thursday night. Was not spectacular but he was very solid. You think that for Jamo to come in Bower is the most likely to make way. I would like for Bower to hold his spot. He was in the best 22 at the start of last year and he gives the Blues some more run out of the back half.

maybe touhy gets omitted...although i like his kick, run and hardnut attitude...
think about this...jamo and duigan played 3/4 of a game and yet the brisbane players played full games and have the same 5 day break...
so if anything (all going well injury wise) they should be fresher than the lions...

Mat0369

Good point on the Lions having the same break as Jamo and Duigan. There is the difference that these two have had interrupted pre seasons and are underdone compared to the Lions players.

Touhy will match up on Banfield. Assuming Brisbane don't make any changes the teams will look like this (assuming they drop Russell)

McKeever Maguire McGrath                      Tuohy Henderson Laidler
Golby Patfull Hanley                                 Yarran Bower Gibbs
Adcock Black Rich                                    Scotland Carrazzo Simpson
Polec Leuenberger Rockliff                        Robinson Waite Lucas
Banfield Merrett Polkinghorne                    Betts Hampson Garlett
Hudson Redden Beams                             Kreuzer Murphy Judd
Bewick Lester Stiller Sheldon (s)                 Curnow Duigan Thornton Armfield (s) Jamison (???)

Looking at the defensive structures Hendo will play on Sauce, Tuohy on Banfield (could be Yarran), Laidler on Polkinghorne (or the resting ruckman), Gibbs will most follow Rockliff (matched up on Deledio last week, Rockliff looks the obvious match up in the Brisbane mid field), Bower on Leuenberger/Polkinghorne and Yarran will probably get a forward tag from Stiller.

Breaking it down if Jamison is to come in he takes either Thorntons or Bowers spot. The fact T-Bird can play up forward works in his favour. I just want to see the team sheets tomorrow.

jezzablue

yeah...more i think about it the more i think jamison and duigan will be given another week....call it gut feeling.

i like last weeks line up on paper...and would be happy to go in with the same again this week.
but i would also be happy to see jamo and duigan come in this week as well...as long as they get through ok...

either way...it shows we have some depth...

Mat0369

Teams are named. No changes at Carlton. My guess is that either Russell or Tuohy will be the sub. Jamison and Duigan not even named as emergencies. I think that is a good move. Play them in the VFL reserves this week for a full game to get match fitness. If they are looking good bring them in against the Pies.

One change Brisbane Jesse O'Brien for Sheldon in the teams further up.  Looking forward to some interesting match ups.  Beams possibly on Judd after his effort on Molony.

Good win by the boys. Bower deserves a spot in the team. Armfield and Russell are the two who are on the fringe after last night. It is going to be a tough week at the selection table trying to figure out who goes out for Jamo and Duigan.
