I have loaded my team up with 8 rookie midfielders and stacked up on premium fowards, backs and rucks. I am thinking now however i am going to drop my second premium ruck for a rookie and then have more cash for my fowardline but still unsure at this stage. A lot of people have thrown the idea of having one premium in the midfield but im going to stick with the 8 rookies.

Just wondering everyones thoughts on this tactic? i know a lot of people think im crazy but i just want to see how it goes.

If anyone is interested in my team you can find it here

doesnt make a lot of sense, the only reason you would do it would be if there were 8 absolute GUN rook MID ONLY rooks.

Given a lot of the rooks that will be guns have fwd eligibilty why put in a premium fwd or over a premium mid? one you want at least gaj or swan for a captain each round or you won't be winning any league matches.

I think depending on who you have already from GWS the only real LOCK mid rooks are magner ledger maybe clay smith after him and a couple of others AT MOST!

Fwd/Mid rooks include kennedy dsmith pfieffer zorko all of which would be better started in your fwd line instead of the premiums and put the premiums in your midfield they score the best.

I have 3 premiums 2 would be ok 1 would be risky 0 would be something you would not recover from all season.

Disclaimer: I could be wrong, think Impromtu (last years SC winner) did a similar thing a years or so back and went really well, not sure the crop of mid rooks are there this season to justify it, not given a lot of the good ones can be started in your fwd line anyway.

Yeah i can see the point of view but im interested to see how it goes as an expiriment.

I reshuffled my team a little bit and now have all premiums in the back and all premiums bar one player in the fwd line. Im trying to go for a league win only so it will be interesting to see how it goes.

Thanks for your thoughts though. Im interested to see everyones opinion

Not sure about this one.

12 premiums to a lot of 14's.

Premiums score > 90 almost every week. Usually > 100 if mid.

Rookies - plus vest - 50 - 80 and a few exceptions.

A lot of money in Coniglio - maybe regretting it now.

Radical but risky.

By the time you start getting mid premiums in, you'll be too far behind and you won't have saved a lot of trades either.

bkp130

Yeah that could be true. Im hoping that the vest dosnt kill me early. I have revised my team for the 3rd time as well. My current lineup is below. Thanks for your comments so far. I also worked out my NAB cup average without a Captain is 1960 which i was surprised as. Hopefully it pays off

thanks for the comments please keep them comming

Cudos for thinking outside the square but ....

Hard to see how the finished team at season's end (league finals) would be any stronger than a 'conventional' well managed team, and you will have copped a lot of poor weeks along the way starting that many rookies.

In addition to the rookie risk, there's also a lot of mid-price risk in this team. Caddy, Hale, Gray, Dangerfield, Cloke (marginal), Hanley all taking up spots you'd want top notch premiums in by season end.

impromptu sce, last years winner actually tried this strategy and finished around the 750th mark a few years back, so its viable but they have to b the right rooks and gun rookes playing full games every week.

hard to find this year.

Impromptu

Yes, I finished 724 in 2010 with 8 Rookie midfield.

Big difference is, there was no sub-rule that year  ;)

Makes it harder to do it now.

Went for 7 rookie midfield and just got smashed by Pendles and Buddy..oh well 2013 just around the corner :)

bkp130

Yeah im thinking i should have had Pendles but im sticking with my stratergy and i will see what comes out of it. Only Midfielder that i have that isnt a Rookie is McCarthy but given the Powers midfield. He is security for points each week.

Im going to update my progress each week on this thread if anyone is interested
