reckon I've already learnt from the gws 1st game that, in general, mature age rookies are much more dependable than youngsters. Pretty stupid not to realise that in hind sight. :-[ Obviously, it's very early days yet, but between cameron, shiels and townsend, I'm already licking my wounds. Thankfully Bugg and Giles were nice exceptions. No panic stations yet, but it'll make me look at my other rookie selections again.
Not too sure of the age of a lot of these gws guys, but Mohr and McDonald were much steadier. How old is Kennedy?

my lesson was that shiel was never going to play a full game after 1 run in the 2nds for his preseason

yeah i'm in same boat re the DEF - took mohr out for townsend due to kpp etc factor but can already see myself regretting it - the bloke will have much better JS and shouldn't score much worse.
funny how all it takes is the first game actually starting for weeks/months of umming & ahhhing to crystalise instantly

rooks are rooks, got to have them and they dont all need to get tons every week to do thier job for you. At least your young gws roooks have JS the better ones in other teams may be vested and or play less games so don't hang yourself yet, Ellis and Wingard are another pair of youngsters but i'm betting they will go well enough too, how old is magner ?

I have Bugg, McDonald and Kennedy on the Bench

Shiel, Giles, Coniglio starting...

Kind of sucks I have big scores on the bench, but oh well. At that rate they'll be swapped  to premiums pretty soon.

+1 Can't believe I didn't see that, I got caught up in all the SHIEL IS IN! hype

Its only round 1 guys!

Evidently there was more than a couple who had Shiel on the field and Bugg/Kennedy/Mcdonald on the bench.

Plus its only round 1. This is more of a learning curve for the season and you'll be much better for it come round 2

burner11

I had Bugg, Shiel, McDonald AND Kennedy on the bench with Smith, Coniglio and Giles on ground,

It's round 1 and i'm looking at how much the benched cash cows will go up after 3 games ;-),

Round 2 might be different with rookie starters but will see once teams come out and see if anyone gets dropped or not for Sheeds rotation policy,

I'd say everyone on the list will get games throughout the season if/when fit.

Like most I had Kennedy, Macdonald n Buggy sitting on the pine. Disappointed with Smith n Sheils efforts after they had super first quarters. Gotta watch those front runners

Shiel could score a 100 next round and have his average at 70ish, which is what you should expect from a mid rookie. He'll be better for the run and has 2 weeks to get some more fitness up. I wouldn't jump off just yet.

^ Exactly. Shiel will still be one of the best rookie cash cows this year, mark my words. His 34 was disappointing, yes, but it will only count for 1 price rise. And if he starts belting out 80s then you won't even remember what his first game was like.

Agree meow. we see everyone panicking like crazy after 1 game!! Give these kids a chance.
For all we know, Kennedy could score 40 next week while Shiel and Smith tonne up!

nathan11

I will just look forward to the topic in 2 weeks along the lines of missed out on 100 from shiel cause he was on my bench

I had  Kennedy, Bugg, McDonald and Giles on my bench. I know they will go up but that only partly relieves the pain of starting Shiel, Coniglio and Smith.
