4-0-4 mids Vs 2-0-2 rucks

I currently have 4 premium mids and the much questioned 1-0-3 ruck setup. It seems like most people who have the Cox/Mumford 2-0-2 set and forget structure have had to sacrifice a premium mid to get both of these, as both Cox and Mumford are at premium mid 600k+ pricing. So its safe to assume that most people with the 2-0-2 rucks have the 3-0-5 midfield structure. Supporters of the 2-0-2 ruck structure often question the scoring potential of the 3 rookie rucks and see the strategy as high risk. Their biggest argument to support their strategy is that the rookie mids have higher scoring potential and you should load up on as many as possible. I really don't see this being the case with almost every mid rookie in consideration having a flaw:

Magner - finger injury with poor disposal efficiency
Ledger - questionable job security and high green vest chance
McDonald - old, amount of game time unknown, nab cup stats weren't anything special
Clifton - job security, poor disposal
Miles - job security
Shiel - appendicitis, hasn't played an afl game
Cognilio - Pricey and hasn't set the world on fire
Wingard - Pricey and hasn't set the world on fire
C Smith - job security, poor disposal
Hogan - Pricey, job security, poor disposal

I'm having a hard time picking 4 of those for my 4-0-4, let alone 5 for a 3-0-5. Essentially the difference between the '4-0-4 mids vs 2-0-2 rucks' is having Giles/Redden on the field instead of a 3rd rookie mid. Who can confidently say the 3rd best of this bunch will outscore Giles? Is the 1-0-3 ruck setup really that risky, or at least more so than 3-0-5 mids?

I'm with you. I tried the 3-3 midfield but struggled to find enough rookies to fill the gaps so I've gone 4-4 mids and the 1-3 ruck.

I've got both the 4-0-4 and 2-0-2. The value picks all seem to be in the backs this year so I've only got 3 premium defenders, and I don't like the forward rookies so I've gone more of a midprice approach there as well.
