My understanding is you have to nominate a Captain this year on the field.

So, select Mummy / Goodes as VC.

Scores poorly - select the usual suspects as C prior to lock out eg Ablett / Pendles / Swan.

Scores well - 2 options.

1. If you have a player not selected, put him on the field as C - with a playing bloke as E on that line. 'C' subbed off and E on to score but I don't think at double the points.

2. If all your players are playing, then simply put C on usual suspect and how many points will you lose? Not many and may even get more.

Only doubt in my mind is whether a non playing 'C' passes double the points to the E who replaces him. So put E on usual suspect on the bench if you're happy with first game C's score.

Oh my aching head.

Emergencies can't score double. So for example, if you have Magner, but he ISN'T named round one, put him on your field, give him the C, and select a premo as an emergency, eg GAJ/Pendles.
You will get GAJ/Pendles normal score without it being doubled.

Also this will work for emergencies this week...

If you're unsure about how a Clifton, Miles, Smith, etc will go select them on the bench as your emergency. If they score well enough, then select a player who will score "0" - Zorko, etc, then they will be on the field. If they don't score well, then just play another rookie on the field, etc.

Jay-Z might be more tempting to people if they're willing to try the loophole tactic with a rookie. What if Clifton comes out and scores 100 and you have him as an emergency?
