Quote from: CalvinPartial (rolling) Lock-Out

This week we start what is called a partial/rolling lock-out.

What this means is… After Saturday Nights opening game, all the GWS and Swans players will be locked into your team to start the year. The rest of your team will be left ‘free’ so you can move them around as you please, trading them in and out as you have done since the competition opened. So make sure you have the right people from Sydney and the GWS ready to go before they are locked in! This allows us to select the right people next week once the team are announced.

The Loop Hole (For those who don’t know what this is… don’t worry)

WILL NOT WORK IN 2012 â€" In the past… we have been able to unselect our Captain, placing the Vice Captaincy on someone from the first game of the Rd.1. This meant someone like Adam Goodes who might have 160 on GWS would be your VC and if you were happy with that you wouldn’t pick a Captain meaning Goodes’ 160 would remain as your captain’s score for the week (doubled to 320). AND… if he scored 70 and you didn’t like it… you’d then pick a captain from the remaining games (Pendlebury, Ablett) who would you would hope scored greater than 70 and this way you’d get a double crack at it.

THIS WILL NOT WORK THIS YEAR â€" as you can not unselect your captain! The only way this would work if you gave your Captaincy to a player NOT PLAYING, meaning they would score 0 and your VC (Goodes) would replace him as your captain for the week. I feel this is a bad move as we want a full list playing in the first round. The only way you can get this to work is by selecting a player like James Magner if he isn’t named to play Rd 1, but you know he will at some point. But for me… it’s a little risky, but a path you can certainly take.

In A Nut Shell…

Do not do the Loop Hole like you have done it the past as you want a team with ALL players playing in Rd.1 (unless you really want to roll with a guy like Magner if he’s NOT named). My advice, pick a captain as you normally would. If you’d like to go someone from this week before they are locked into your team for good heading into Round 1b (next week) you can do so… but you WILL NOT be able to change this person once the game has started. The only person you’d be considering for this week is:

Taken off SC Gold news.

You would have to take the risk on someone like a Shiel/Magner weren't going to be named round 1 after the first partial lockout when you choose them, if they were you could flower yourself over big time.

4INAROW

im pretty sure they have to be on-field too so you'd be getting a donut.

You'll know before the first lockout if Shiel is playing...

Untrue, although you must put your captain on the bench you can name them as an emergency and they will replace the person who will score a 0 on the field.

What about if you have a player on your team that you know is missing round 1 (bock for example)
Could you then make goodes or mummy your VC and change the captaincy from bock to someone like ablett after the game is over if you were not satisfied with their score?

pavs nose

whats the go with emergencies during these lockouts? not using the loophole so this shapes as being very important.

Capper

if the swans were playing GWS at the SCG i would be locking Mummy in as captain, but since at ANZ no to any swans as captain

Lol sorry I didnt think that one through to well. Deffinetly worth doing then... Unfortunatly I dont even have any players that are deffinetly not playing round 1. Im kind of hoping shiel isnt named now

Taking a player into your team who is not playing round 1 is too much of a risk for the sake of 30-40 points.

quinny88

Actually it would have to be a player from the second week of round 1 that you make your dumby captain wouldnt it? If you selcted  shiel you wouldnt be able to unselct him once the game had been played so you would be left with whatever goodes or mummy scored as your vc anyway? So baisically you would need a crystal ball to see if magner will play or not the following weekend

Thats not the risk.because if they dont play your emergency takes over. The risk is if they actually DO play  because then your left with a rookie like magner as your captain
