Players locked in for ages but now you have second thoughts

Which players have been locks but now for whatever reason you have some doubts?

Here's mine

Cox - With Nic nat fit and firing and spending even more time in the ruck, and Lynch,Darling and Kennedy to kick it to up forward, how can his scores not be affected? I know Cox is the exception to the rule, and is an important link up player, but I'm still worried. Will he be able to take advantage of his first five average ruck contests? It's only one game but against Adelaide he was pretty quiet when he was on, had a shot when he had two on one to kick it to and sprayed it badly. Is he finally slowing down?

Pav - I know he scores slightly better as a forward, but is he too used to playing mid now? Will be relying more on goals to score well.

Goodes - Usually an upgrade target for good reason. Starts season slow, finishes strong and seems to go quiet when Swans are comfortably winning,as they should be in many first half of season games. He lifts for the tough games. I was on early as I think he may buck the trend and thought not many people would pick him, but now I'm not so sure.

Christenson - Loved this guy, made a big contribution to the Cats' flag run. Is a good price because of sub affected games and surely is now in best 21. Hasn't impressed in the NAB though. Played mid for a while I think against the Tigers and coudn't find the ball, and when he did he looked a bit rusty.

Rioli - is his "new running style" really going to ward off those hamstring issues? Not convinced and is in a battle with Martin(tough early draw) and Chappy(also hamstrings) for my team.

please discuss and add uyour own.

Christensen has hip trouble and might not be right for round 1. Downgrade to Porps and upgrade Delicious to Buddy

Thanks for the info. If I get Rioli it will be as well as Buddy, not instead of. Can't not have Buddy. Cyril could match Buddy if he can stay fit.

Great topic.

I am having similar dilemnas as you!

Pav for me, is linked to... DANE SWAN / MARC MURPHY.

I had one of those two locked all summer, but now, just days out, and I think I will steer clear of both.  My reasons are:

Swan
  • Buckley as a coach adds uncertaintly
  • Looks like he will be rested for at least one game
  • Looked off the pace in the nab Cup - has the Brownlow success gone to his head to some extent?

Marc Murphy
  • Blues form looks terrible!
  • I think he will take the number 1 tag this year, with Judd being off the pace
  • If Carlton are doing well, they will probably rest him at least once this year

Instead, I am looking at either Andrew Swallow, or Priddis, as replacements.

Now, this links into your Pav dilemna (which I concur with), as by putting Swallow/Priddis in, I can afford to take Pav our for Buddy.

Then if I do that, I have bye trouble in round 13, as I have Martin, J Roo and potentially Buddy as forwards...

Which means I need a rookie MPP in the midfield that doesn't have a round 13 bye.

Phew!

Marc Murphy is un-taggable. He has missed one game in the past 4 years, and that wasn't because of injury. Could win the Brownlow.

if teams dont tag judd he will completely destroy them, murph is safe
judd is too good not too tag

I reckon Swan and Murphy are still great picks. Wouldn't be too worried about NAB cup form. Both players are champions and their respective teams will finish high on the ladder. Lock in one or both of them!

BJ....just not confident...could be the biggest mistake / masterstroke...If he performs, can get him in later anyway...wouldnt expect to pay too much more than 100K extra than what he is worth now...whats his role this year...FWD?

Lids & Dusty...Ill wait till rd 7 or 12...the ox is patient...or however it goes..will be the last pieces to the PLANNED jigsaw (form / injuries permitting)

TWest...for 30k more Im more confident with Hales scoring ability.

KHorsely...where he at?

Had Swan and Murphy in my team from the start, and recently got rid of them, I just have a feeling they are not going to be as great a value to start with as others, though are two of my first upgrade targets.

I also have had Selwood in there for a while, and my head says pick Selwood over Swallow in the mids at the same price. But I just have the strongest feeling that Swallow will absolutely kill it this year and I'll regret going the popular pick over the slightly more unique swallow!

Great post ubeaut!!!!! - It's that time of year for all the second guessing. I have had 4 Prem mids (Ablett,Pendles,Murph, and Selwood) locked since somewhere back in January. That changed two days ago when I got jitters about Murph.

Murph and Selwood are now moved on for Boyd and Thompson. Whilst I feel Murph is the most consistent, I dont wan't to miss out on the big scores from the start that Boyd can deliver, and Thompson just for a POD, great form in pre-season, and all of the other reasons everyone has talke him up.. it was out of him, Swallow, and Priddis..

All of this change just because the Murph jitters kicked in.  :o

And... My 2 cents worth are don't worry about Goodes or Cox. I have Pav, and have weighed up his role in my side MANY MANY times!; still have him. never considered Rioli....Just too many ?? marks????????? Love watching the little fulla play though!

Hmm, he scored poorly vs Bulldogs in nab Cup 2 cos he had the Picken tag.

I think he will be vulnerable if Judd doesn't get back on the park.

Swan may be a champion, but I don't like his nab Cup output and I am a bit jittery with him.

@ OP...
Pav seems to be a slow-down risk this year.  I have him too, but seriously considering.  Much happier with Fyfe.

Cox is in the same boat as Pav.  I am steering clear.

As for Goodes, on previous efforts I would only consider as an upgrade (just that his run home is typically when he plays his best)

Rioli is purely whether you think he will get through the full 22 games without breaking down.  If you are confident, then lock him in - I am not comfortable with locking him in though!
