Carlton has become the first team in history to finish 18th on the ladder. (Even if it is only the NAB Cup ladder 8))

Congratulations!

meh, they'll come 17th in the season proper  :P

Yet another uniquely good Carlton stat :)

Though hopefully they don't do the reverse of what they did a few years ago (first preseason, last premiership)

I think GC is a bit more likely ;)

More likely, but won't happen haha. Isn't the GC your second fav team?

I like them because they were the underdogs last year. But GWS just suck.

Back to Carlton, have they actually been playing rubbish or do they just look like they're holding back?

Most of their big stars don't seem to have won many possesions so I reckon a top 3-5 finish is still likely

Carlton suck. Yep, no doubt about it.

I wouldn't read much into it.

It is the pre season. I watched all the pre season games apart from the Brisbane one in Maroochydore. As a team they looked like they just wanted to go out, have a run and chase a ball around. Judds game at Visy against North was a perfect example. The ball was bouncing two metres away from Chris Judd. Instead of doing what he does best and attacking the ball, he watches the North player pick it up and casually run away. Judd is basically watching him do this. Do you think Chris Judd will do this in Round 1 against Richmond? The Blues are just looking to manage there players and make sure nobody gets injured (especially after the Laidler injury). Judd would have a break away clearance then come to the bench and rest for 3 or 4 minutes. He would put in two efforts then come to the bench for another 5 minutes.

Another example from the Roos game, Murphy had possession of the ball running on the half forward flank. He reaches the 50 looks inboard where Heath Scotland was standing on his own. He waits then turns back looks deep and bombs it to a 3 on 1 in favour of the Kangaroos. This happened a few more times. Geelong were playing the same way against Richmond. Or the fact Jordan Russell was running back with Drew Petrie one on one 3 or 4 times in a marking contest. These resulted in goals. With the injuries to Duigan, Laidler and Jamo the Blues are tweaking there backline to see who can play the third tall defender.

After winning the NAB cup twice and finishing last in the regular season I take nothing from this. Geelong lost to Port by 84 points in the NAB challenge last year. How did both of these teams finish? The only thing the NAB cup is useful for is young players to make a name for themselves and players to get some match fitness.
