Struggling to think how that was taken out of context....

But I believe the Crows have a decent amount of Aboriginal players in their history. However, I wouldn't have a clue what race there parents were

Ziplock

I think it was taken out of context in the sense he was probably mentioning how he didn't want a jurrah situation or something along those lines.

still moronic.

TheMailman

Seeing as 10% of AFL listed players are indigenous, I can't see how you can release that statement anywhere.

A black day in the Club's history  :'(

bunyip

At least he did the right thing by resigning. I think Adelaide's honor is intact. No-one would believe that the whole club feels that way. It would not have been their recruiting policy.

I agree, Adelaide made it a lot better by going with the AFL and not contesting or hiding up anything which is admirable

Definitely keeps their honor intact as Bunyip said.

I can't believe in this day and age that someone would state such a thing, without thinking it through first. We all know what he was trying to say, but that sort of thing happens in all cultures, not just cultures with both parents being aboriginal.

I didn't quite pay close enough attention to his interview on Footy Classified last night but seeing his passion about the subject, I'm minded to give him the benefit of the doubt that it was an 'off-the-cuff' flippant comment to illustrate his point in a private conversation - i just don't think it is fair how he was then 'vilified' by the AFL after that.

looks like they blew it up to suit their purposes.

i already didn't have a lot of time for Demetriou, I didn't see his full interview on FoxFooty last night but after seeing Rendell speak about the situation last night, he strikes me as a lot more credible and honest than Demetriou saying they gave him an opportunity to talk about the incident by way of a press conference.

off what i saw from Rendell last night, bullshower the AFL gave him that opportunity.

it sounded more from Demetriou of, "you say you're a bad person, made a mistake, then we'll let you go to the public" - i would've told them to 'get flowered' too in his situation.

i dunno the whole story and the public won't either, but in the context of a private conversation, sure the offending comment shouldn't have been said, but for the AFL to then make it public and witch-hunt him like that is worse than low.

Demetriou has held the reigns in a period of sustained growth for the AFL but he's worse than a politician to my mind ...

i don't think it is fair to label Rendell a racist, it's just not there in my opinion

Here you go j959 Matthew Rendell interview part 1 watch out at around the 8 1/2 min mark when he tees off at Demetriou  :o and Matthew Rendell interview part 2 He does not hold back.

afl_freak2

the whole thing is a joke!! what has the world come to??? bring back wayne jackson

j959

3 days after the interview ... this still p*sses me off.

Demetriou tries to be holier-than-thou and it stinks because of the way this bloke got SHAFTED!

no question, stupid comment and shouldn't have been said (i still think it has been taken out of context) - but the way this guy has been crucified and hung out to dry is just plain flowering bullshower from a 2-faced AFL hierarchy.

You should not be able to take the moral high ground when you've acted so low.

McRooster

Stephen Trigg is just creating a path for himself to move to AFL House.

"How high Andrew?"
"THIS high Stephen!"

Get a room you noobs, or is it that Trigg also currently has a corporate personal interest in the successes of Adelaide Oval's redevelopment and is looking to create a distance from it by moving up the AFL ladder and out of the South Australian spotlight...  :-\

Agree with all you said j9.  Rendell is no more racist than the pope, he is however silly for making an off the cuff comment to exaggerate his concerns about the stats showing a drop in Aboriginal recruitment over the last few years and their concerns about issues they have away from home, so Rendell said if it gets worse and nobody gets serious about the problem now not in 6 months a year you may see clubs only recruiting Aboriginal kids with one white parent. Demetriou is a D**ckhead in that context in a private conversation between 2 friends at the time, one knowing full well the other isn't a racist, to me in that context it could be defendable not as Demetriou suggested undefendable totally unacceptable. He gave Rendell no chance to explain himself or the situation, cant stand the bloke.

I think the Crows had no choice but to let him go, they would have had a gun held at their head by you know who. What does have me a little confused is why Mifsud(hope thats spelt right) would quote the comment to Demetriou and not explain it in the context of a private conversation, by that i mean why didn't he say to Demetriou this is what Rendell said but this is not his personal opinion but a concern of his. That i don't get, as Rendell said they were friends. You have to be so careful what you say nowadays  due to Political Correctness and people watching every word you say and the media ready to jump on you if its a slow news week that nobody says what they really want to say anymore and that's sad in so many ways, but none the less you must be careful what you say today that's a given just ask Akermanis. Tip: Put brain in gear before mouth.

In closing can i just say "Bugger off Demetriou your a snake in the grass.
