ok... so Chris Masten yet again had an impressive pre season, a bit better than the past 2 years but not by much...

he has burnt me every time... Am I stupid for adding him in my team or will he actually live up to expectations this year?

reasons I want him is purely because I believe the Eagles will actually be a very strong side this year and play a high possession game.

let me know what you think, if No who do you think is a good replacement for his price of $278,500

looking forward to the replys

felsty

had him in but took him out to upgrade leuey to cox.. reckon he will kill it but another to look at is john mccarthy! played a ripper in a half last week and should get heaps of gametime. masten played last week without embley, priddis and shuey in the side

Jukes

Reckon he can push his average beyond 90, this weekend is make or break for his chances in my team.

McCarthy less likely to get the weighted points for being in a winning team, though can get more ball as Masten up against embley, priddis and shuey.  Both upgrades once they peak anyway, unless there is a rookie to score the same...

Caddy another option?

you dont mess around your mids with players like masten who constantly burn you sure it could pay off but i dont think its worth the risk. You take risks in the other postions im taking risks like malceski/ grimes hargreave, gray etc who have all burnt me in the past but my mids are rock solid.

Locinator

I'd Take Gaff, Caddy or Macarthy over him

redden+ rockliff+ shiels would have been three of the most advantageous picks last year

in the forward line, you had fyfe, in the backline, suckling.

so a majority of the best picks came from the mid. On top of that, Rockliff and Redden could have been keepers.

if you think you can pick a guy like them than good luck to you, the risk is that if it doesnt pay off in the forward line no big deal but if it doesnt pay off in the mids than you have either wasted a premium spot or one of the valuabel mid rookies spots. Also if you have a guy in a difficult 300k postion its very hard to go to a premium and you dont want to be going to another mid pricer or cheap keeper so you will need to find a good downgrade target.

I feel much safe if danger flops and is priced at 300k i double trade up to a guy like fyfe

Yes, but if you take away from that Rockcliff, Redden and Shiels weren't being considered, by anyone.

Fyfe was at least considered a bit as well as Suckling.

I thought we'd established that I developed a retrospective formula for this at the conclusion of last years H/A season :P

true that

Well I only joined at the end of September so I probably missed it.

I still feel I have a strong point though. Almost all the "popular uniques" have failed IMO since a started playing some 3 years ago

start with 10 mid pricers this season and win the car than.

I am starting ONE of masten, parker or Caddy etc ...

If they flop then i will downgrade them to a rookie who is killing it (usually there is a rookie who kills it that nobody even considered at the start of the year ... )

If they kill it then i have a premium and don't need to trade.
