I've just been reconsidering it seems there are no standout premium rucks this pre-season? Thoughts?

I'm tossing up between a Cox-McIntosh-Giles-Redden combo or a Cox-Giles-Redden-Jenkins combo.

It's not helpful attacking someone thatguy. Perhaps offering up players that you think have done well would be a better option.  :)

Big cox has averaged 116pts per 100mins in DT scoring which is usually lower than SC scoring. This probably equates to 120-130+

I find the rucks the easiest place to pick rookies at the moment, with 3 options in giles, redden and orren looking like they have decent job security. I don't really have that kind of confidence in many of my other rookies in other spots around the ground, particularly forwards.
If you're taking the guns n rookies approach, you can only fit 13-14 premiums in your side at best. I think putting 2 of those premiums in the rucks is wasted when the other areas of your field probably need the premiums more, where rookies don't run as deep.

Orren isn't safe, or get much of it. From what I've been told from someone who played on him a few times in the VFL, he isn't a big disposal getter, and thus Redden is a much better option. I wouldnt even bench him, because what if Vardy comes back earlier? I have inside info that he will be back any time after rd6.

Dont stuff around with rucks. You will regret it! Just get 2 prems!

First 6 rounds of orren is fine for mine. Thats how long you really need a rookie for anyway. Besides, he is one of the very few rookies that isn't from GWS and is guaranteed to play.

You'll regret it when you set and forget with Mumford and Leuenberger and find out you shouldn't have cheaped out on Cox because hes smashing out 140's every week.

IMO It is safe but depends on who the prem ruck.  Have seen a few teams going M Mac and 3 rookies then you could say this strategy is risky compared to someone who is going Cox, Giles, Reddan and Rowe/Stephenson.

+1 and cheer Caveman

on the topic, regardless of nab cup demonstations mcevoy, mummy and jacobs seem very safe choices with JS and form and potential.

Goldy has shown why he was near the best ruck last season in one game and that also should bring HMac enthusiasts back to Earth.

Minson and Kruezer have stood out but carry some risk.

COX is a lock. upgrade to him mid season or reap the benefits from round 1 your call.

Sandi will fall apart (maybe) but while he's up and going he will be elite as always, he is also in for periods of rest.

Burger hasn't forgotten how to ruck or been replaced still a safe pick also.

Nic Nat could smash it this year he will see plenty of ruck time PLENTY

As far as the 1+3 strategy as long as Giles plays every game and scores like a good rook its no different than having a rook elsewhere as long as the money you save is spent on making up the lost ruck points elsewhere in your team. I think with Redden looking to have the #1 ruck spot at port this makes the strategy even safer.

Is anyone considering a Cox - McCauly - Giles - Redden combo?
According to clarkson McCauly could be the No1 Ruck at the Hawks.

with NAB, gotta keep in mind the new rule of no throw in's. it would be hurting some of the ruckmen a little  :P

best set and forget is cox and mummy imo, $$$$$$ though!

It can only work if you're willing to spend the extra 70K and get Ayce!

Ive decided that it is. I realised that Giles will score more than a defense rookie, therefore it is more benefical for me to have a premium in the back.
