I've got a few in mind that I'll moniter closely in pre-season, but I'm interested to see who you think might take the next step in 2010 and have a breakout year/become a DT gun.

R Petterd
B Prismall
D Armitage
K Tippet
N Van Berlo
C Mayne
A Monfries
T Cotchin
R Griffen
M Morton
D Wells
R Tambling
B Ebert(WCE)
C Masten
B Symes
M Kreuzer
J Riewoldt
C Knights

I'm sure there's more...

( From your list ) I'm a big wrap for Prismall, Armitage and Kruezer to really step up next year. Cotchin needs a full pre season to break out.
Haven't Wells, Tambling and Griffen had plenty of chances?

Prospector_1

I thought van Berlo had a big year in 2008? Is there a superstar in there?

@ Hawks_1976

Lol, I was actually going to seperate those 3 players and a few others into a 'are they just a tease?' category. They've had plenty of chances yes, but I'm still hopeful  ;)

@ Prospector

Van Berlo did average 85 in 08', but this year he has taken a backwards step (injuries have played a big role). Next year could be his 'become a DT gun' year where he averages 90+.

The Daniel Well's talk has started early this year.

He is a crap, soft footballer, in an even worse side, forget about him once and for all.

He will have a big pre season again, will produce huge fantasy numbers in the pre season games, some like me every year will get sucked in and put him in our sides again just to burn a trade 4 weeks in when we realise he is no good and cant shake a tag.

On a positive note i think with a full pre season ahead of him Cotchin is going to be a very special footballer.

Crows90

What about Alwyn Davey. He returned from a knee reconstruction this year so obviously he wasn't 100 per cent but he's a tackling machine and can kick a few goals as well. Do you think he will get more time in the midfield next year?

As for Van Berlo he's only missed one game through injury in the past 3 years so thats not really an excuse for his backwards year. I think its because he's been playing in defence alot more this year. If Shirly gets delisted VB could do more tagging next year (will obviously will effect his scores). But yeah as we saw last year I think the potential's definitly there for him to be a dt gun. I remember late last season he had over 35 possesions for 5 or 6 games in a row.

Van Berlo suffered a bad injury in late pre-season - lost a lot of fitness, I remember because he was in my team until he got injured. Once the season starts, it's hard to build up fitness, but instead you just maintain it.

Crows90

yeah forgot about that injury, I think it was his ankle wasnt it?
VB's probably the fittest player on the Crows list (either him or Burton), he constantly breaks time trial records in the pre-season. I still put it down to him playing in defence a bit more this year for the drop in his scores imo.

@ Bradway...

i was one of these who got sucked in with daniel wells this year... it will be even more of a prob in 2010 tho i reckon cause his price will be even cheaper... more tantilising... even to use just as a mid cash cow upgrade!

roo boys!

Prospector_1

Go wells, go Shells. Put a tiger in your tank!

jehan

would anyone be considering Liam Anthony as a starting gun midfielder next year? I mean he is averaging more than Judd.  Greg Broughton is another ill be considering.  90+ ave.

Mitch Morton & J Riewoldt won't do much the games that Richmond get flogged next year.

Masten won't have a full pre-season given his late knee injury. Might avoid him for another year.

i recjon griffen, wells and tambling have missed the boat and have been carrying that tag around to long. Tambling showed a little bit of form last year but its hard to predict him.

Tippett symes and knights had their breakout years last year. Wether they can continue their form and get better is the question. I reckon they will still be good buys this year as crows aim for a top 4 spot

Breakthrough players this year would be
petterd (glimpses last year and should play a key role in the rebuilding of melbourne)
monfries (shouldern the burden after the loss of lucas and lloyd
brad ebert (promising last year)
masten (injury concerning but is starting to find his feet in the afl)
kruezer(doesn't have cloke to rob dt points offhim anymore)
j.riewoldt( on the up. moulding into the same sort of player as his cousin)
robbie gray ( tearing it up onthe training track)

tom swift ( this years rising star. finished the season off well)
xavier ellis ( needs to step up or will struggle to keep his spot)
trav tack( depending on i he gets enough game time)

mitch hahn( has he missed the boat with barry at the dogs now. Will have to watch nab cup and find out but if barry snaps he is next man in

the players that will step up are usually from the clubs that are rebuilding or nearing the end of their 5 year premiership window.

for example last year it was st.kilda, adelaide and carlton
this year west coast, freo, melbourne richmond hawthorn
and in a couple of years time port

All yours are good but heres some add-ons

Bryce Gibbs
Bernie Vince
Bradd Dalziell
Jason Porplyzia
Matt Maguire
Scott Gumbleton
Jobe Watson (already a star and captaincy knights says has made him better!!)

there you go!
