Slightly away from SC for one minute, for those older than 15 or so, who do you think was the most exciting player to watch??

Other than Lance Whitnall, have I missed any obvious contenders over recent years?

bradway

Ablett without doubt although i think many will go for Carey and with good reason.

Good topic Cruiseon,

I went with Hird, and I am happy to admit that part of that was as a result of personal bias ;D.  I think it's a close call between he and Carey, with GAS not too far behind.

I personally think those midfielders with awesome skill and awareness are the most exciting to watch, moreso than the full forward (ie Lockett) who might be an awesome player but not as exhilirating to watch.

I agree, G Ablett Snr was a freakish player.

It all depends on how you define an exciting player. Modra was exciting coz he tried to climb all over anyone near the ball, Peter Matera was exciting due to his run and booming goals, Leon Davis is developing something of a reputatiuon these days due to his uncanny goal sense etc

Still, Ablett wins it by a mile IMO

gerco

Ablett Senior for mine.

The very first AFL game I went to was when Salmon and Ablett had that classic shoot out at the G, 10 to Salmon and 14 to Ablett. That he played as good as or better in a dozen other games over his career says it all.

In regard to Lance Whitnall, he was the largest, most freckled and reddish player ive ever seen.

DUNCS

Peter Bosustow
going back a bit now
short but very exciting career
goal & mark of the year in one season
current crop
Cyril Rioli
only going to get better

JUDDY

Liam Jurrah is ten times more exciting to watch than any of those players IMO. then probably Cyril.

Cruiseon

Rioli has played about 25 games, Jurrah has played about 25 minutes.

Juddy, & Duncs we are talking about ledgends, not 5 minute wonders, that could be another thread which would include Alan Jackovitch, Adrian McAdam, Mitch Robinson etc

Kouta, both Silvagnis, Wanganeen, Liberatore.

I think Libba is in the Lance Whitnall category. He was good to watch scragging, holding biting, pinching etc (much like S Silvagni - with no biting) but he was not exciting in the least.

SOS could take a grab at least. Wangas was exciting but probably in a second tier like McCleod, Long, Hocking.

Others that may be worthy of mention include Warick Capper (true),  Dermie and of course Jacko!
