Backline growth strategy in 2012

After digesting all the possible scenarios - is anyone else with me on a backline growth strategy this year?

The forwards don't have the growth potential - seems the defensive $100-200k has many possibilities this year. My team has 5-6 premium forwards/mids, 4 premium mids and 3 premium backs.

Wondering how many other teams will load up with the potential growth in the backline?

Ofcourse the rucks in 2012 are a 1 prem/3 cheapies strategy.

Any thoughts on macro startegies this year?

PS no Franklin for me til his price drops due to the new rule changes

Not sure you should pass buddy up from the start but your call.

I would be tempted to have as many as 3 mid priced defenders due to potential and standout form of several, risky tho as far as trades are concerned and scoring potential.

I currently have 2 in conca and hargrave, with a similar team than yours but i have 4 premium backs and 5 premium fwds plus the 2 midriced defenders, my concern is however that i should lose one of the midpriced defenders to upgrade 2 of the premium fwds to elite...

So like your thinking but i have only 2 and look likely to cut down to 1 by round 1. Just can't take too much risk or season can be over very early. On the other hand it can win you the prize taking the risks  :)

I'm with you mate. There are so many mid price options in defense, rookie options in the ruck, mids and heaps of fwds who are mids to try and benefit from in Martin,Fyfe,Sidebottom,Beams,Zaha,Dangerfield etc. Add that to the fact that good defenders are hard to pick but easier to upgrade to and should score less than top rucks, mids and fwds who are mids. All this says to me get two or three prem mids, one or two prem rucks and four to six fwds. In defense I'm aiming for a max of three prem but probably two, then two to four (yes four) mid pricers. In other words I'm capitalising on as many fwds who score as mids as possible at the expense of a prem defender or two, who usually don't score as high as mids.

There were some Clanger rule changes but it was a mistake.

So to be clear the rules are the same as last year for scoring.
