Its a real immature argument to say that West Coast cheat.

There I posted my basic opinions.

Onto the Essendon vs. WC thread. It really isn't clear enough to see which teams will finish up where yet, you just can't. They haven't really played the same teams.

What i can say is, the Bombers won't finish higher than WC. You have to remember that when Hird took them they were dreadful in defence and a hyper agressive team. It takes time to fix that.

So you have your eight.

Hawks and Carlton are auto top 4s.

Sydney can be 11-0 before the bye. Maybe finishing with 15-6 wins (remember that Mumford and Goodes weren't playing against NM and no Mumford against Hawks). If they keep it up, top 4.

West Coast vs Collingwood vs Geelong vs Fremantle . You put that on current form, your ladder looks like this

Carlton
Hawthorn
Sydney
West Coast (sorry Le ;) )
Geelong
Fremantle
Collingwood

That leaves you one spot. Whether Essendon earn it or not is up to them.

There's a lot of bias in the media against us saying we won't come top 8, however I'm thinking we'll come 6th and play a home final against somebody like Fremantle or West Coast and hopefully win that one by a few goals, then play against somebody like Sydney or Geelong and hopefully get over them with a full squad to utilise, then play Carlton or Collingwood in the prelim and challenge for a spot in the grannie. Very open top 8 this year, anybody could get into the pf/gf.

Kidding yourself. Eagles are better than 7th bro. Pointy end of the top 4!!
Yeah I agree. We will not make a prelim this year.

Ziplock

adelaides draw will see them into the 8.

Essendon and north will be unlucky to miss out.

West Coast aren't cheats. You can hardly blame an umpires call on them. Although to be honest I think it's more players that get love from the umpires, rather than teams.

If you don't think WC are going to make top 4 with their draw you're kidding yourself.
For Sydney, I'd say that same probably goes.

Am I the only one that thinks Freo is being rated as a better team than they really are?
Adelaide does have a good draw but I still don't think the list is good enough to be a top 8 team.

At this point in the season, my EOS ladder is as follows ~
WCE
Sydney
Hawthorn
Carlton

Geelong and C'wood 5 and 6. Could probably shuffle them around if you wanted to though.

Every single team has shown deficiencies so far this season. No team has shown they're a step ahead of the rest as we saw Collingwood do in '10 and Geelong in '09.

That's what makes it exciting though. I think after last season the top 3-4 teams were pretty clear.
This year it's much closer.
I like it.
Half a dozen serious contenders this year.

Ziplock

fremantles teams always been decently rated, they've just been plagued with injuries. They've beaten geelong, and their only losses have been to sydney and carlton (who you've rated as top 4), in very close games.

I think adelaides draw is just good enough to slide into 8th.

Sydney are an amazing team.

Next 5 for the Crows don't look so favorable...

Sydney, away
Geelong, home
Carlton, away
Collingwood, home
Fremantle, away

Odds for the 8 will lengthen if they go into the bye @ 4 and 6.

West Coast to stay top four, two home finals and straight into a GF....maybe rekindling their rivalry v Sydney ??

Essendon will shape the top 8 format by beating the occasional team above them and giving their supporters hope, but then lose to a run of minnow teams below them and not have enough % and win/loss ratio to push into the finals.
Hibberd and Hurley missing hurts ATM, Dempsey returning but won't be at full tilt, they'll be close but need everyone on the park to be competitive.

:-X

Back to the point though, I'm not writing off Essendon. I just feel that they are contesting for one or two spots in the 8 with 4-5 other teams.

And from the article Jukes has posted. It sounds to me as if the umpires are just getting caught in the crowds and the heat of the game, not just giving free kicks to West Coast.

I've said it like 3 times now but Sydney, NM and Port all won more free kicks over the course of last year so your only argument now is that more free kicks are given at Paterson's Stadium than other home grounds, which isn't that big a deal.

Just get your fans to make more noise  :P

These!

Jukes

Eagles only offer about 500-1000 tickets to members of away teams (it's more for Dockers obviously), up against the 40,000 odd bandwagoners (although that number varies on how good eagles are, can be 25,000 in years like 2010).

How do you even enforce that? It's hardly a foolproof system and people can still get tickets easily

Ziplock

:S

When I've gone to games I've just brought my tickets online... never asked me what club I support (I live in sydney but and haven't been to many games though :P )

roo boys!

I think the point that Jukes is trying to make is that Eagles have 50k+ members and Petersons Stadium only holds just over 40k. They give only about a thousand or so tickets to the other club, which the majority of which goes to the cheersquad and the highest class members. You can't just buy a ticket at the gate, I've tried.
