The Round 3 wrap-up! With Premiership fancies Geelong, Collingwood and Carlton all getting thrashed, and the Giants actually registering a win, you can tell that the NAB cup is only a guide. But for rookies especially, it is a particularly good one.

A full list of NAB cup results are available here, including all of rounds 1 and 2:

Top 10 Cheapies (< $140k)

Name   Team   Pos   Price   Total   Games   Average   $/Point   G4
MILES, Anthony   (GWS)   M   $104,200   169   3   68.00   1532.35   99
SUMNER, Liam   (GWS)   M   $139,200   128   3   48.33   2880.00   86
CLIFTON, Stephen   (GWS)   M   $121,800   146   3   55.00   2214.55   82
GREENE, Toby   (GWS)   M   $134,700   113   2   56.50   2384.07   82
REDDEN, Jarrad   (PTA)   R   $104,200   214   4   65.50   1590.84   82
ELLIS, Brandon    (RIC)   D   $116,700   175   4   52.25   2233.49   80
CAMPBELL, Tom   (WBD)   R   $85,800   78   1   78.00   1100.00   78
SMITH, Clay   (WBD)   M   $107,700   168   4   53.00   2032.08   76
BRENNAN, Jacob    (WCE)   D   $104,200   161   4   51.75   2013.53   69
STRINGER, Jesse   (GEE)   M   $104,200   160   4   49.00   2126.53   67

Ruck option Jarrad Redden is definitely putting pressure on Matt Lobbe and Brent Renouf, and is a worthy 3rd or 4th ruck choice. As you'd expect, the Giants dominate this stat! The question is who to choose? We can't choose all of Miles, Sumner, Clifton and Greene in the midfield, and they aren't the only ones to perform well this preseason. Also have to fit James McDonald on the list! Although not on the top 10, Folau has recovered well from his shocking first round performance, to post decent scores in rounds 2 and 3.

A lot of teams will have Brandon Ellis in there team, and I'm thinking of taking a risk on the very cheap Paul Bower. Unsure if Jacob Brennan, Tom Campbell, Clay Smith and Jesse Stringer  will get a go in the starting 22.

Top 10 players $140k - $280k

Name   Team   Pos   Price   Total   Games   Average   $/Point   G4
MASTEN, Chris   (WCE)   M   $278,500   259   4   83.25   3345.35   96
JETTA, Lewis   (SYD)   M   $219,100   213   4   69.00   3175.36   94
MARIC, Ivan   (RIC)   R   $262,700   158   3   62.67   4192.02   89
PARKER, Luke   (SYD)   M   $244,200   182   4   57.75   4228.57   84
PORPLYZIA, Jason   (ADE)   F   $202,500   137   2   68.50   2956.20   84
DALZIELL, Bradd   (WCE)   M   $198,200   83   1   83.00   2387.95   83
BEAMS, Claye   (BRL)   M   $214,700   177   4   55.50   3868.47   80
REID, Sam B.   (SYD)   F   $278,200   125   3   56.67   4909.41   80
WALLIS, Mitch   (WBD)   M   $244,800   147   3   57.33   4269.77   78
MAXWELL, Nick    (COL)   D   $269,000   118   2   59.00   4559.32   77

Of that list, I think the only real option is Jason Porplyzia as a forward option in what looks like a revitalised Adelaide outfit. Sam B Reid has a lot of hype attached to him, and for good reason, but I think he'll be a bit inconsistent. Chris Masten continues to tease, but not at that price.

Top 10 players $280k - $420k

Name   Team   Pos   Price   Total   Games   Average   $/Point   G4
PALMER, Rhys   (GWS)   M   $323,500   243   3   97.00   3335.05   118
FOLEY, Nathan   (RIC)   M   $414,600   148   2   93.00   4458.06   110
HALE, David   (HAW)   FR   $342,800   182   2   91.00   3767.03   106
WHITECROSS,Brendan   (HAW)   F   $377,800   154   2   77.00   4906.49   106
WARD, Callan   (GWS)   M   $404,300   126   2   75.50   5354.97   101
ADCOCK, Jed   (BRL)   D   $417,700   141   3   60.67   6885.16   100
RIEWOLDT, Jack   (RIC)   F   $345,600   160   3   57.33   6027.91   94
BRENNAN, Jared   (GCS)   M   $417,300   237   4   71.50   5836.36   92
SWALLOW, David   (GCS)   M   $377,300   179   4   56.75   6648.46   91
WATERS, Beau   (WCE)   D   $338,200   90   1   90.00   3757.78   90

The terrific form of Rhys Palmer continues, but I think many coaches will have a couple of Giants rookies in there midfield, and you might not want to risk another. Jack Riewoldt had a poor year by his own standards last year, so could be underpriced in yet another thin year for forwards.

For those looking at having a Ruck-Forward link in there team, David Hale has shown good form, but I don't think he'll replicate Drew Petrie's season last year.

Top 10 Premium (above $420k)

STANTON, Brent   (ESS)   M   $528,300   107   1   107.00   4937.38   107
WATSON, Jobe   (ESS)   M   $492,500   107   1   107.00   4602.80   107
COREY, Joel   (GEE)   M   $456,900   107   1   107.00   4270.09   107

The Lions have a very impressive pair of young midfielders in Jack Redden and Tom Rockliff, while the evergreen Simon Black continues to impress. I'd go with a youth policy here though!

All of Luke Hodge, Jobe Watson, Dean Cox and Nat Fyfe are extremely good players, and not to state the obvious, would be a great addition to any team.

I would have thought McCarthy was stiff to miss out? 62 in a half of footy against a proposed top 6 side.
I guess you're going by total score which is why McCarthy and Caddy missed out.

A very good read, cheers Oss.

What about Caddy in the mid price?

Would be an interesting choice :) 60 points in his one preseason game though, think he's a bit pricey....

I like how you didn't mention Stanton even though he scored the same and will probably do better than Watson this year.

Jukes will not be happy haha.

QQ os (quick question ;) )

no chance that there will be a pp$ version of this spread sheet come the conclusion of NAB?

I mean I *know* it has pp$ column, I meant like for a ranking system :P

Pffft if Stanton pulls a few 60's to open the year Jukes will be quiet.

I can add a 'rank' column for sure, and people can always sort if they like :)

And Brent Stanton, meh

no blues or saints players there a total reversal of last year for them

Im still worried that the lions backline is getting a lot of ball

Hmm, if I were to choose between Porps and Reid, I'd be inclined to go Reid.  He takes a brilliant mark, so there's plenty of points there.  Only problem may be his goal kicking, but I don't think he'll be much less consistent that Porps, if he even is at all.
