Is set and forget really the right option for the rucks?

All of the "set and forget" combinations that i have seen over the past few weeks have included mostly cobinations of mummy, berger, mcevoy, sandi and jacobs but not Cox as he is perhaps too expensive to team up with another premium ruckman. The teams that have chosen to fork out the cash for cox have tended to go with a rookie ruckman by his side.
Throughout the nab cup i think most would agree that cox is by far the number 1 ruckman and everyone would want him in their side by seasons end.
My side, like many others currently has a mummy/berger combination which is a nice looking combination but by doing this i am basically ruling out having cox for the season as trading out premiums is a big mistake other than for injury reasons. Is it maybe therefore smarter to start with cox/rookie, mummy/rookie or even someone like berger/rookie to eventually end up with the ultimate combination (which would need cox in it)??
Or alternatively should we just be happy with 2 other premium ruckman and hope that the cox domination doesnt hurt us too much?

Up to you mate ;-), Me personally i'm going McEvoy and 3 rookies and upgrade to Cox later on due to money to be made, But set and forget you'd need Cox at least in one of the pos. due to him being the best ruck in the comp.

Very interesting thoughts. A Mummy and Berger combo wouldn't permit a Cox upgrade. I myself have Mummy and Berger but the rookie ruck structure is very tempting considering the form of Jarrad Redden from Port who has looked great this NAB Cup. Giles and Stephenson/Jenkins would be decent backup.

Very true, I'm a bit worried about Berger though they recruited Hudson as back up, Maybe bite the bullet and go Cox/Mummy with Giles and Redden, Big O hasn't impressed me to be honest, I could go set and forget myself yet

I was super happy with mummy/berger at the begining of the season but now im not so sure. cox is just too good to look past.
I wish i could go cox mummy but it just hurts me too much in other positions on the ground as i have gone with a prem/rookie approach over the field i have no mid priced players to downgrade

Maybe sacrifice a fwd prem. theres plenty of DPP's to start with

I have Cox & Mumford, they'll be the best by years end easily. Therefore I have no concerns spending my money on them.

I cant really afford to do that as my team is purely premiums and rookies right across the board it has left me with
4 prem defenders
4 prem rooks
2 prem rucks (no cox)
and 4 prem fwds

the rest are rookies, makes it a bit hard to downgrade

I wish i was that brave lol. but you may be suffering somewhere else on the ground.
I would have happily downgraded my mids to 3 prems but now all of the mid rookies i liked the look of are getting injured to make it even harder!

Unless something untoward happens in the next 2 weeks my Rucks will be Cox, Reddan, Giles and Stephenson.  Reddan will be no1 at Port until Lobbe comes back and with Giles gaining cash at GWS as well perfect downgrade upgrade possibilities.

14/8 seems too rookie heavy IMO.

Im starting to lean towards this aswell. The only problem will be that there arent many downgrade options in the ruck. Giles, bigO and redden.are the only obvious for first year ruckman that will play. Of cox happens to miss a game earlt for whatever reason its gonna be a huge blow

Maybe so but its 0 risk. Im not convinced enough on any of the mid priced players so I rather an extra prem than 2 mid priced players

A few downgrade options will be Derickx, Jenkins, Rowe, Pattinson when the time arrives.   After the byes you can afford to have the luxury of a non playing R4 if need be.
