With Williams out for up to 16 weeks, and Morris still some time away, Hargrave will have to start playing as more of a shut down tall defender. Gilbee could reclaim his place in the team now, and with Howard and Murphy as rebounding options, Hargrave might not get as much of the ball. Don't hate Ryan if you pick him and he scores 50's.

Just Clancy

ugh, pretty good point meow.

He's been in my team for about an hour and a half.
Guess he's gonna shuffle back out again.

Are you sure what Meow is saying is correct though. Who's to say he won't score the points he has been scoring in the pre-season?

Maybe Meow wants him to be unique :P

Time will tell. Let's just say I'll be watching his games closely  ;)

Won't Lake take the key position role before Hargrave?

Lake and Markovic are the only other AFL standard tall backs on our list. Pretty Thin.
Mulligan is a joke.
Talia isn't ready yet.
Cordy could roll through there at times.
There is a possibility that Tom Hill could come in, but I wouldn't count on it.
Maybe Mark Austin could get upgraded off the rookie list.

Yeah Lake is still number 1. Markovic will probably play every week now, but sometimes 3 tall shut down defenders are needed. JJK, Q-Stick, Darling, Cox pushing forward for example. Play loose on these guys and prepare to get destroyed. In games like these Hargrave could easily dish up a score of 50.

Yeah true, Hargrave could also get just as many points say running off darling or the bigger players clearing the ball to the wings/HFF. For that price i'll be getting him not expecting tooo much..

He's hardly a key position backman.

Would Hargrave played so loose if Jarrad Waite was playing? The quality of opposition has to be taken into account. Hargrave has 11 years of AFL experience, and was playing on players who haven't played a senior match.

Mozza3

Fair point, proceed with caution. At least we've got 2 more nab games to see what impact the Williams injury has on Hargrave.

It's not so much loose, it's more peeling off waite (or whovever) clearing the ball out of defence. Often Hargrave will be the one switching play, taking a lot of marks etc. If he is the 3rd tall i'll still back him to average 80+..

ando_10

good point but will see what happens in the final nab game.
