Hi Legends,

Just musing on the structure of my team and wondering what people's strategy was concerning the liklehood of vest wearers in thier rookie selections.

I am toying with the idea of less newbie rookies that are likely to wear the vest. I am concerned that rookies like Smedts et al will seem like great pick ups and round 1 selections only to sit on the bench until the last quarter before picking up 2 marks and a handball. Ruck rookies being the exception as they generally dont get the vest.

Is it better to select someone like Bower/Wilkes who is less likely to wear the vest?? Marty clarke? Crips? A.Collins? Sippos? Winderlich? J.McCarthy? N.Brown? Sellar? Simpkin?Warnock? They start getting into that awkward price but may be more likely to get consecutive games.
Also is it better to load up on GWS  rookies because only one of say six will have a vest on in that week whereas if you selected 6 rookies from other teams you could foreseeably have them all wearing a vest and ruining your score and chance for cash cowing. Then the GWS sit on you bench in Rd 11 and are gone and replaced by players who have has thier bye = WIN WIN

Even more annoying would be to pay high rookie prices ($165K) then see them sitting down on the bench most of the game. Mature agers over the 70kg rookies for me.

There seems to be so much choice this year for rookies especially in the mids but for backs and forwards how confident are we they will be on the field?
Who do you think will be this year serial vest wearer out of the touted rookies??  :-\

ssssssshhhhh :P
But yes you do have a very valid point, go with a blend and the rookies that look like stand outs in the NAB Cup.

I just downgraded Cox to Jacobs and used that money to strengthen every rookie in all positions, to hopefully pick players who won't get vested. But my team just doesn't look as good with cox not in there. Still undecided :(

jabroni

i think it depends

if you go wingaard i can see him being vested a few times early on whereas a more mature aged rookie might only get vested later in the season if at all

This would lead to looking at the lower end of the mid pricer group as well.

Makes sense.  Certain types of player tend to get the vest.  Mids mainly. Defense rookies less likely.  With that in mind, gws gun rookie mids seem like the best options.  Them and the likes of hogan, who has carved out a spot through retirement.

Yeah I'd stay away from any young rooks with interrupted preseasons too. They'd be far more likely to get vested if they're not match fit yet.
