Could this work? The midfield is where 90% of the good rookies are. So why struggle to choose 4 or 5 when you can choose 7?

Thoughts?

Justin Bieber

It could actually work. I would try Ablett and Swan and 6 rookies.

I've tried it and it works, just have to pick the best rookies :P

NOTE* (By works, I mean top 500)

TheMailman

Theoretically it could work, but no doubt you'd be missing out on the Heppells, Stanleys and Darlings of this year.

You'd have to pick them spot on otherwise 20k would be looking optimistic

Usman

wow just wrote a comment on an earleir thread on this possibility. Definately could work Ablett (or another premo) could provide the perma captain option while the midfield rookies are generally the most reliable and high scoring of all rookies.

are you stacked in other areas or have you got many rookies in other poistions

Usman

I dont see a reason why you cant win the entire comp with this strategy let alone top 500!!! you just have to get lucky with the initial picks and you are ahead of the game. Mind you very lucky, but thats the same with any strategy to win the whole comp, you HAVE to get lucky to win.

Im guessing you have to be stacked in other areas, with 2 to 3 rookies in each position with ALL the rest PREMIUM players.

Didn't Jay To (Impromptu) use this theory two years ago. Although he didn't win that year I think he still ended up around 700 or something.

Not saying it is a winning strategy, just saying, relatively, it has worked before.

This year it could be very useful becuase of all the potential in the MID rookies. Last year it would have been a good idea with the back line: Stanley, Puopolo, Duigan, Heppell, Hibberd, lower :)

thats the thing though you have to have the balls to trust these rookies and then get lucky. Good luck to anyone that uses this strategy i can see it working but i cant bring myself to do it seriously just yet. I keep switching my team around to have a 1-7 mid structure and then swapping it back to a 4-4.

Agree but my problem is I'm not sure where to parlay the extra dillipanos.

I'm going back ATM but it's a massive risk.

I don't like ANY ruck except one. Reckon I'm still gunna have to trade up any way, so may as well go with O or Giles as second ruck. For a limited amount of players there seems to be as much upside as a mid.

So this year I'm looking for cash from Mids, then I'm looking at Rucks.

skooper

Good idea but its going to be hard nailing the right ones especially with the green vest. I think if u maybe leave yourself a little coin for damage control if needed or start with 2 or 3 mid prems to reduce the risk a bit

ubeaut

Yeah I've been thinking Two of Ablett/Pendles/Swan and six rookies for a while. Another advantage is you can "wait and see" who the best performing mids are then aim for them.

tor01doc

One mid super elite isn't enough.

4 premiums is too many.

Reckon 2 of Pendles / GAJ / Swan is minimum.

For balance I'll go GAJ / Swan and another really strong one (say NDS / Selwood / Murphy / Boyd - depnding on byes) plus 5 rookies.

Too many rookies = too much risk = not enough points on the board early.
