Points vs dollars?

Thoughts please on the following.

eg 1: Rookie @ $110K scores 70 points per round - then is worth about $380K - profit $270K.

eg 2: Mid-pricer eg Gaff @ $331K improves average to 90 points per game - then worth about $490K - profit $160K.

Over say 5 weeks

eg 1 profit = $270000 points 350
eg 2 profit = $160000 points 450.

Which would you prefer?

Why am I thinking so much?  :-\

Ziplock

nah I completely agree. I think that I would prefer the points :P

Justin Bieber

Yeah lol you need points to win haha

Money buys better players, sooner,  who will get those points back that you lose initially.
Not an easy equation to work out.
Gaff averaging 90 is less likely than a good rookie averaging 70 imo.
I'd take he money unless u think gaff could go premium.

ants

it all depends on the mid pricer improving his average cause if he only improves a little bit then eg 1 is the much better option!

I couldn't of put it better myself.

I think we'll all end up doing a bit of this and a bit of that due to unforeseen circumstances.

Trade wisely grasshopper.

mate, the key is where you spend the $221k you save by starting the rookie.

if you can pick 2 mid-pricers that will improve enough to outscore a premium and a rookie of equal combined value then you come out ahead.

the hard part is picking the right 2 mid-pricers. I reckon you need them to increase by about 25-30 pts each.

Capper

depends what you want to do with your mid pricers, are they there for good or will they be upgraded. I am hoping that i hold on to my mid pricers for the year and hopefully put them on my bench if i trade wisely and need too.

I will be trading every rookie i have in my starting team after they make money around R 7 one up one down

its possible Gaff could average this with another good pre season and the fact he played as sub quite a few times last year. the only problem with getting gaff is, will he be a keeper in your side? is 90 points a game enough to keep a player in your midfield? i say no because you are losing out on 20-30 points a week on the premium you could have had if you traded up from the rookie that avg 70.

Summary:
Gaff avg 90 x 22 = 1980 points
rookie avg 70 x 11 + Premium 115 X 11 = 2035 points (and it would seem less risky)

Reckon midpricers are too risky judging by consensus of opinion.

Stuff it. I'm going rookie mad.

Thanks.

mid-price players are very rarely the best option(for overall that is),  in saying that  there still can be the odd one thats worth a gamble from year to year. ATM i do have hargraves, but thats about it.   guys like lake/brown and so on are not bad choices cause of there potential ceiling

In general agreement with mid pricers in most cases but what they do enable you to do is score 10-20 points more than a rookie and allow for accelerated upgrade( if you have cash in the bank) with one trade to a fallen premium after 2-3 weeks of value changes.  Might come in handy if you are considering the common Dustin Martin tactic - to get him in at R5
