Best captain option for round 1,

I'm currently leading towards Goodes because they are palying GWS in their first game and Goodes will be playing Forward and will take about 1000 marks.

Tossing up between Ablett and Mumford at the moment

Mummy?? Really ??

i have Goodes in my team but i will be going with GAJ. Goodes may not have to be at his best to win this game

If playing fwd, davis isnt the worst match up possible for goodes, should still score well but id still pick ablett against the crows. Or even a 'left field' option of the highest scoring player last year, pendles, to have a lot of influence in a tight game, which is usually where he thrives more so than big easy wins.

ha! I was going to say mumford as well for a smokie :P

captain loophole goodes/ mummy :P

Jacka33

Davis would be a decent match up on Goodes, but you also gotta take into account how many opportunities he will have, i don't expect the ball to leave Sydney's 50.

+1 Forgot about that loophole  :)

cortez

no loophole this year if you have read every other thread on round 1 captain. and just cause gws are playing sydney first up doesnt mean goodes or mummy will kill it. if you look at most of gold coasts opponents last year the points were spread amongst the dominant team. for me it has to be ablett and that includes pendles swan and cox all.in my team. ablett is just the best in the league. simple as that.

Ziplock

actually cortez, you're wrong :P

if you don't have a player who's playing in round one (such as suspended ziebell/ sylvia) or a non-playing rookie (although that's inadvisable) then the loophole is still completely viable.

cortez

that is true but the amount of points you would get from just say goodes or mummy ove ablett or pendlebury would be lost by the rookie that repkaces a ziebell or Bock?

Ziplock

possibly. But you'd be picking those players to kill it when they come back. So you pick ziebell, you get the points of mummy over ablett, lose out a little on the rookie, then ziebell comes in and slays a 105 ppg average?

Fletch74

If you use the loophole, you use the VC option, so if Goodes or Mummy don't fire, like 130+ then use Ablett or Pendles...

The amount of points lost if you left them as Captain when they scored 130+ would be very minimal if any!

Ziplock

he means points lost by having a rookie cover for ziebell, rather than having another midpricer such a sloane, trengove, barlow, hayes etc. in

Sorry Zip, the point I'm making is that if Goodes or Mummy score 130+ then why use Ziebell? Use a rookie who has the potential to play maybe Rd 2 or 3?

Ziplock

way more risky. Look at players like hibberd last year- was supposed to be an early shoe in for the bombers, didn't debut until mid season.
