Can you complete a side using Guns/Rooks?

Turkies

My side right now has 13 premiums, and 1 mid pricer (Jono Brown) that leaves 8 field positions that need to be upgraded. Assuming 2 downgrades for every upgrade; 8 upgrades and 16 downgrades. That's 24 trades. Leaves no room for dumping a crap rookie, or trading out injured players.

Is it better starting with a midpricer in every line that will end up as D7/M6/F7, even if they may average a good 10-15 points less than your other players? That way you'd need to use up less trades and get the benefit of picking up players that could average 85-90 yet only priced at 60-70.

What do you guys think?

You shouldn't be needing to use 2 downgrades for every upgrade. Most of the time you can do 1 downgrade and 1 upgrade.

For example you have 2 rooks who have both managed to get up to a price of 300k. You downgrade 1 of them to a new rookie for 100k leaving you 500k to spend on upgrading the other so you can get a fallen prem :)

Bennyy

Dont know why it takes 2 downgrades to upgrade 1 player..... pick the right rookies and thats 8 downgrades to 8 upgrades leaving you 8 other trades to be used!

Jizberts

Also you might get 1 or 2 rookies that you end up keeping. For example i had happel till the end of last season. If you downgrade/upgrade at the right time with b/e's and whatnot that will save you trades which should leave you afew for LTI's

Midpricers are coming for you! Repent! REPENT!

SonsOfZeus

more proven to go with this startegy as mid-pricers are unproven and will most likey kill you in the long run(proven players like jono brown are exceptions)

In my experience one often ends up with piles of cash and no effing trades left yet again at the end of the season even though I swore I would never run out of trades ever again but I do every single year!

Yeah you can. That's how I use to play, but you need to take risks to win. You can't have standard teams and still think you can win.

well yes you can mate, but if you go strictly guns n rooks you need to kick ass at the trade table. the better trader will do the best with guns and rookies. you start a couple of middies and you get a leg up, or a leg down!!! gotta take a punt on a few middies imo. maybe 3 max???

Ziplock

you need to pick perfect rookies for guns and rooks. Can't end up with a richardson/ toy.

coconut52

you cant go all guns and rooks and expect to do extremely well thid year because everyone is doing it the winner of sc will be the one who takes the most risks (eg impromptu no goddard) and they pay off if you are going for overall get 2 or 3 or even more mid pricers in but i certaintly agree with the oters that it wont take you 2 downgrades to a upgrade because if you pick the right rookies they will be 300k + each

Agree, whether it is the arrogance or not, I want to be able to say I picked the break out player for the year early on. I will always trust my research and instinct to pick a couple of mid pricers, to supplement the guns/rookies strategy

Grannyboy

I'd always like to think there's room for 1-2 good mid priced risks in any team. You know some of them will be worth while but which ones?

SonsOfZeus

haha you dont have to get the rookies exactly right.look at impromptu and previous winners have had a few duds. its more captains choice and what players to play that seperates the top 500.

room for maybe 1 or 2 mid prices max
