Hey lads,

Dean Cox evades... Someone.

Dean Cox was taken with pick 19 in the 1999 rookie draft. It took the big man a while to really become prominent as he played second fiddle to ten time nutcase Michael Gardiner. When the opportunity did present itself though Coxy took the opportunity with both hands. He was a key figure in the Eagles 2006 premiership triumph. Since 2005 Coxy has been one of if not the best ruckmen in the AFL.

Pros
History - Coxy has incredible DT scoring history. He is a superstar of the game and since 2005, when he lifted his average from a mediore 77 to a premium-like 95, has averaged over 100 DT points per game in all but two seasons. One of these seasons was 2006 when he was still well and truly on the rise. The other was 2010 when a severe groin injury coupled with a wooden spoon hampered Coxy's 22 games. Apart from these two seasons however Coxy has been the most prolific ruckmen in the AFL Dream Team.

Team - As seen with Shuey he plays in a team that should be up and around the top 4 team in the comp. This means more shellackings and more time forward as the Eagles look to develop Nic Natanui and therefore A LOT more +9's

Injuries - Over his 11 year career Cox has played 213 of a possible 242 games and this includes games very early in his career when he was not the number 1 ruckmen at the club. He is very resilient and has the ability to play while injured and still score well enough (see all of 2010)

Cons
Price - Is 532k too much to pay from the outset? I think it might be but a better quesion is do you want the best ruckmen in the competition in your team from day dot? I also think so... Could be an awesome upgrade target...

Age - He is pretty old but to be fair many ruckmen peak late and are able to play as 34-35 year olds. Coxy's has 2-3 years in him AT LEAST imo.

Conclusion
There is no doubting Coxy is a superstar but will Nic Nat's increased influence hamper his scoring? I doubt it. Cox to play more forward line in a top 4 team. Bring on the +12's. I think he will equal last years mammoth effort.

Ele's predicted 2012 average - 107

Great player. But his price is a lot to pay for someone 70 K cheaper that will average, probably not the same. But all the cash you save is very beneficial.

Afraid so. It took me about 3 weeks to get back into school mode.  :P

Colliwobblers

yeah i have played around with my team to get him in and the only way it works out i think is to add as many as 2 mid pricers instead of premiums in fwd and back lines. ( 1 in each or 2 in either).

that or put him in with a mid priced ruck instead of a second premium, neither option appeals to me so pass

Big_Cox14

Cox is the number 1 ruck in the comp and his fantasy output is heads and shoulders above his peers.

I think that you have to have him your team at some stage. There's no other ruckman in the comp that will avg 120+ in SC. I think there are a few that have a shot of averaging 110 - 115+ but not much more than that.

If you can start with the best, then go for it. For the record I'm starting with Cox.
