I thought the same thing with ablett couple years back, used 3 trades to get him, downgrade twice in the first week, then upgraded another cash cow to get him. 3 fricken trades I used to try to get an edge on everyone. Ended up losing league games to.

Capper

why stop at round 3, they then have west Coast in Perth and Sydney in Tassie. Hawks struggle against the swans (until last year) and West Coast are a difficult team at home.

This makes him an even better idea to upgrade to

FonFatty

If u think he is going to struggle early by all means go for it. Massive risk though, if he pumps out huge scores he could be priced alongside Pendlebury by rnd 6.

auscoyote

Yeah ya logic is sound. Goodes usually starts slow but has a very easy draw. Buddy probably will come down in price, but enough to justify a trade i dont know. I not going to risk it as im going for overall too. But i do see ya logic in the $$$ you could save which ultimately helps your team in the long run provided you can get buddy in before he starts ripping it up. The beauty of SC at the start of the season and making the decisive, sometimes gutsy calls .Every year is different, best of luck.

Torress

i've thought about this a while ago and i think its a bad move.

those scores against his early opponents could be looked at as abberations? i'm pretty sure buddy averages his highest SC vs the pies? last year might of changed that tho. but buddy wasn't fit last year, had interupted preseason and looked angry becasue of it.

he's done a full preseason an obviously a dam good one if they can put him on a wing and run up the ground all game! we pick players with good preseasons, when the best forward in SC has a ripping preseason i think you pick him! he could easily get 20 disposals a game whilst up the ground and who knows how many goals he might kick! LOCK he could monster collingwood round 1 IMO as who'll stop him?

Ziplock

first 2 rounds are the one that'll affect pricing the least, and good luck to get mature cash cows by round 4/5.

You might prove me wrong in picking buddy up after he drops, but I doubt you will.

If the only reason you think it's worthwhile to trade him in is to save 100k, then it's a bad move and a waste of a trade. You're banking on him playing poorly, which isn't a good idea.

He might have bad averages against his initial opponents, but he might also play more midfield/wing time this year which could be very good for his scoring and judging by the way he tore apart his first NAB games - his scores will go up. I know it was only two NAB games, and nobody tries in NAB, but he looked absolutely amazing - the best I've seen him. Also keep in mind he plays for Hawthorn, 3rd favorite to win the flag so they'll be competitive against anyone they play.

Bottom line - stupid idea, don't wait. Get him from r1.

No sense beating about the bush...or whatever your beating ...(not you TF)

If Hawthorns going to beat Collingwood or the Cats...who is going to be the main instigator? Probably Franks.

Who have Geelong added to last years side? No one..theyve lost 4 very handy players instead.

This year is the 1st for a few that Collingwood havnt recruited handy players (Krak, Tarrant, Ball, Jolly previous years)...they have a new coach that could be planning anything...no real improvement in their side...if anything some good players in the side have had interrupted pre seasons compared to the last few seasons...they do have good depth though.

Hawks have added another decoy for Franks in Gunston...and Roughnut may be up and about by then...The Hawks will be definately in for a good show in the 1st 2 rounds....

= Potential Franks Tons...I would say there is more chance of him scoring big than scoring under 100 with his current confidence

fever

i'm sure it's been said already, but the trade saved is worth more down the stretch than potential 100k saved or whatever.

plus he's no gimme to score that badly again.

pavs nose

too delicious to leave out. end of thread.

If you had a choice of Goodes or Buddy you have to go Goodes. Buddy has averaged 81 against the first 3 teams and Goodes has a very easy run for 10 rounds or so. Goodes has GWS, then free at home, then port then north. So Goodes should smash Buddy in those first 4 weeks alone so isn't that enough to justify getting Goodes over Buddy?
You should know that Goodes plays better against tough opposition and finishes the season better than he starts. Having said that I'm looking at both to start. Buddy to play more on the wing as well so more possesions and more SC points.

Hawthorn are playing collingwood, geelong, and adelaide in the first 3 rounds. Looking at Buddy's performances against them last year, he played 1 game against Adel (72), 2 against collingwood (66,79), and 3 against Geelong (95,85,93). A total average of only 81. He is then playing West Coast over there. For his price of 600,000, he will not hold this price. If he scores around the same as this then he will drop price significantly. So you should hold off on him and pick him up when he's much cheaper.

What about the scores from the year before that?  What about all the frees he gave away against Adelaide?  What about the bulking up he's done?  Tell you what, I'll pick him and you can laugh at me when he gets terrible scores and you get him for less than 400k :)

Save trades man!! - get the ones you really want now while they are free!!!
