there'd be nobody left in the backline.

please, note this isn't a go at you, but why the flower do articles about this type of stuff pop up every preseason. The only people it flowers with are us fantasy footy coaches.

yeah not sure what hardwicks plan is. but it is quite annoying hearing all these rumours. then they just spud it up and dont do shower doing the season

Cant see it happening. He is to important in defense. Richmonds clearence work was terrible last year Hardwick will be bringing in the better players to help with the clearence numbers and getting first use of the footy, but i doubt newwy will be one of those players. He may take Deledio's role as a higher half back flanker that dashes through the midfiled rather than plays there.

According to hardwick The tigers will be playing every game with 22 mids..... :o in all honesty I would thin he will sat down back 99.9% of the time... His kicking is too good to be removed from there back line....

I can't see both Newman and Lids out of the backline at one time, think Lids will play higher, and newman will occasionally float through on rare occasions

this has been said in years past. he'll push in there if he needs to every now and then. wouldn't be starting the game in there IMO! he is a good SC player and defender premo, but lids is better, faster, stronger, fitter. can take grabs, play forward and kick goals, as well as play loose in defence, get clearances.

so basically its a no as lids is better! and i want GOD and thinking about birchall as well

Lids will play more mid than defence this year leaving newman to maybe take deledio's role as a higher half back flank more often. Lids was made for the midfield and has rarely been used there in his career yet. He could be a 115+ scorer with a permanent move there. His speed is like David Wojcinski except he actually has footballing talent aswell, not many will catch him and he will hurt teams with his delivery into the 50, not just with his run, and he will find alot of the ball. Who are teams going to tag in that midfield? Lids, Cotchin, Martin or Foley you dont want any of them left free they are all damaging especially the first three.

Doesn't matter if he plays mid or not, he'll still be in the best 7 backs again regardless.

Yeah all these "he's running through the midfield more" stories get a bit much. They should still have heaps of backs if Newman plays up the ground in Batchelor, Rance, Grigg, Houli, Moore, Connors, Post etc. but I agree they'll need his kicking from the backline. So yes he'll play mid at times but not that often.Should still score well in any case.

You can look at it two ways.
Fill the mids up with premiums and get rookies in the backs as mids score more points on average, and mid premiums are the highest SC scorers on average.
OR
Fill the backs with premiums as there isn't as many decent rookies, while there are so many decent choices for rookie mids.
